So, would licenced properties be a problem?
If not, you could go crazy with Superhero names (i.e. Iron Man, hulk, Batman, Storm) as well anything else from popculture like LOTR: forodo, gandalf

Unfortunately, I do not like to add in licenced stuff into my mods. Not that I don't love LOTR or superheroes, I find those names fit a different universe.

I dunno, I can see how nicknaming a ranger "Strider" could work in the XCOM universe. You just have to assume there are nerd soldiers around.
