M41A Pulse Rifle from Aliens

It seems bulky and tech level is off I think.
First, I love the mod. I think it's a fantastic idea. You've done a great job.

I only really have nitpicky issues with it. The gun's too big. I'm not sure if that's because of game limitations, but is it at all possible to maybe trim it down a bit? As for what I mean about the tech level, I think it'd be cool if this gun were unlocked at the mag weapon tier. I mean, it is a future gun from the future. I think it'd be comparable to the Mag tier in damage from what we've seen in the film.

I agree with the gun looking too bulky, but I'd argue that it's a Tier 1 weapon and not Mag tier. For one thing, it's not technically a magnetic rifle, it just has a funky firing mechanism(Electrical discharges that activate the caseless rounds propellent.) for a conventional assault rifle. Plus, the rounds themselves are the true cause of the damage we saw from the films, do to them being semi-armor piercing/explosive. So, in essence, I feel that it should be considered a high level Tier 1 weapon, if that makes any sense, that can keep up with higher tiers with ammo mods.

How do you suggest to trim the model? I've actually done that already, the proportions were a lot bigger.

I plan on attaching it to an early game research, so you can ideally use it before Mags but not at the start.

I agree that it's a wee bulky, though I can live with it because it's still very sexy.

As for tier, since 5 tiers is better than 3, probably tier 2, where tier 3 is 'magnetic' tier.

Early game research sounds good to me.

I am by no means a modder so I won't pretend to even begin to understand how you did what you did. And again, you did a great job. I'm just curious to see if my idea's possible.

All I can say is that primarily the gun appears too long. The barrel and grenade launcher section is the main issue. It looks more like a MEC weapon from the first game than a soldier's rifle. In the film the rifle was much more compact and perfectly suited to fighting in close quarters. If I recall correctly it was only as big as an old Thompson gun because that was the base for it. They built a frame around that.

You're off to a great start with this weapon. And just like Camadorski, I'm no modder, either. I can see why you had to make a compromise with where the left hand is placed. The overall size needs a very minor decrease. It's that barrel needs a little work and shortening in length. The area where the "Carrying handle" and the charging rod meet should have a space.

I love this mod -- just hoping to finish the campaign once before I start trying stuff like this. :steamhappy: I'll keep my fingers crossed some crazy ambitious team will give us an Aliens Total Conversion mod some day. Justin Fischer's Aliens TC mod for Doom was one of my all-time faves.

The "Making of Aliens" documentary on YouTube has some great close-ups, footage and explanations of various weapons and equipment in the movie. The first interview is with the movie's Armorer and he talks all about how the weapons were constructed. The Pulse Rifle chat starts at about the 2 min 23 sec mark.

My dig is that almost every weapon mod is tier 1. We desperately need tier 2 and this is from a universe where humans went out and found ayy lmao on their own.

i dont like how any of the energy weapons look they look way too laser beamy. i like guns like the m41a pulse rifle now that IS a real gun!
