American Truck Simulator

Realistic Economy (Hard Mode)
ptr1ck  [developer] 23 May, 2024 @ 6:43am
Looking for feedback for upcoming update.
I'm currently playing this and looking at making some tweaks...

About Fines:
I want to adjusting some fines to be more in line with reality. Some of these fines are in the improper driving / reckless driving range and higher than what I would assume to be a ticket for failing to yield right of way or something similar. Users of the mod probably aren't that interested in racing around causing crashes, so this is my reasoning for much lower car crash fines.

The running red lights and no lights at night fines are just pains in the butt. Some intersections are hard to see the line to stop at. I've also been ticketed by a passing police for not turning my lights on immediately at like 8 or whenever it switches over.

Violation:__Before:__After:
Car Crash: 450 >150
Avoid Sleeping: 100 < 150
Wrong Way: 125 < 150
Speeding: 100 ~ 100
No Lights During Night: 125 > 80
Run Red Light: 350 > 150
Avoid Weigh Station: 350 > 250
Illegal Trailer: 750 > 300
Avoid Inspection: 1500 > 500

About Loans:
I'm considered making loan adjustments, but feel like it's OK for where it is now. If we just increase credit limits to allow for expansion, then the business management part of the game gets a bit more strategic. If we do make new loans, the rates and term lengths would only affect new loans and not affect existing loans so you would not have ballooning payments.

I will be extending credit limits by 1 million every 10 levels up to level 150. At level 150, you ought to have 15 million in credit and can run a big trucking company (in theory).

About Garages:
I also want to adjust the garage production values to more closely reflect driver growth. I certainly need some feedback on those production values, they are currently way too low in the mod so you should easily be at 100% for any garage.

About Trucks:
I plan to put the truck refund price back to original value (from 35% to 60%).

More thoughts on loans and credit:

-Looking at removing the level 2 credit increase to $150,000 and change the $500,000 limit to level 5 from level 6.

-Possible new loans (old values in parenthesis):
$50k @ 7% (7%) for 12 (16) weeks = $605 ($452) daily
$150k @ 6% (3%) for 24 (32) weeks = $918 ($682) daily
$500k @ 3% (2%) for 40 (48) weeks = $1807 ($1515) daily
$1000k @ 2% for 48 weeks = $3005 daily

It would be nice if I only got fines if there was a police car nearby

Very good point Maxeza.

I will be changing the offence_probabilty for the following to 0:
-Avoid Sleeping
-Wrong Way
-No Lights During Night
-Red Lights
-and 2 others not in ATS, but in ETS2.

offence_police_probabilty will remain the same as what the mod has had, which is 80% chance (100% base game) for speed cameras and 50% chance (90% base game) for speeding (cause some police don't care).

I'm also going to drop fines on Damaged Vehicle Usage to 300.

I like your mod it has good balance. But to be honest I use "ATS police tweaks" and "Lower probability for weigh stations" mods (which bypasses weigh stations about 85%). The ATS police tweaks do exactly what you are contemplating. They eliminated camera fines and thus the nuisance fines but it's still possible to be fined if you speed in front of cop or run a red light in front of a cop. They nerfed the collision fine down to $20 (because of stupid AI) and there is a wider window of delay for getting fines including speeding (to allow you to slow down). Also, you can turn on red without even stopping (again the cameras are nerfed). I won't play without that mod. I was at level 26 or so with your mod and when the game updated to 1.50, your economy numbers changed (got lower) and I aborted the game.

I will be highly amused if you render a ultra-difficult version called the Bidenomics Special Edition (BES). :steammocking:

Love your economics mod, ptr1ck! Two suggestions to make it even more realistic:
- Add a daily cost for the owner-operator living costs, e.g. $100 a day or whatever seems reasonable. I'm not American so don't really know...
- Add a cost for sleeping in a truck stop if your truck doesn't have a sleeper cab, to simulate the cost of a motel room. Also, it would add an incentive to buy a sleeper cab, other than just looking cool.

Are AI drivers supposed to dwindle to $0 profit once they reach max XP?

Huh, I'd love an answer to this before doing a whole playthough with this mod.
