Undine (Species 8472) - Massively OP?
Is it just me, or is it totally impossible to beat the Undine? Like how do you beat a 800K fleet?

With a 900k fleet?

By the time they appear I usually have multiple 100-150k fleets... Throw everything at it...

Wow! I can barely get 60k fleets stood up as the Federation. What fit do you suggest?

Just what ever the best equipment you have of course, and mostly smaller ships, with a few buffing cruisers, etc...

By the time the Undine appear you should be well into TNG era ships and techs...

Ok, so best as in highest average damage?

I was preferring the larger ships, and fleeting based on type. Maybe a mix is better like so say. Never even considered the buffing cruisers.

So frigates mainly? With, what, 5x buffing cruisers per fleet?

Depending on fleet cap, I'll go for one of each buff, or debuff type, maybe two once you've unlocked a few of the fleet cap increases, but always try to get at least one of each, then fill the rest with Frigates and Light Cruisers type ships...

Ideally I try and get about 6 Frigates as a minimum, and a couple Light Cruiser type ships -- I love the Miranda, personally...

And "best" is generally the highest damage, but look at all the factors... What's the ship's role? What's the range of the weapons? Is this weapon range optimal for this ship's role?

No point putting high-damage, short range weapons on a ship that's going to sit at long range as (someone correct me if I am wrong) it's not going to shoot them until something gets close to them... At least, that's my experience... You're much better off with slightly lower damage, but much longer range weapons in that case, such as Assault Phasers (IIRC) which have like 100 range, but do about 90% of the damage of other phasers, etc....

Conversely, small ships which charge in against the enemy are best with really high damage (don't forget high accuracy and tracking), short range weapons, as that's where they'll be fighting...

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain that. I really appreciate it!

I'll give that a go.

In my last playtrough they stomped everything. Had my 800k Fleet obliterated by their 300k stack. Only thing that helped was building fighters and zerg rush their fleets and bases. Seems the high evasion value gives them the edge over the undine ships.

Fighters eh? I think there is an early Troop ship that can do a fighter module secondary hull set-up. I wonder if the evasion on that would be low enough to do masses of them as a counter?
