If we can find someone who can work on 3D models in Maya we could look at new ships, but should probably put this to one side for the moment. I'd really like to replace the Wormhole generator model with a Guild Heighliner like this one, as the Guild will be the only race using that method of FTL travel:

Race-wise, if we look at creating a mod for a 'small' galaxy, we need 12 races/houses, by my reckoning. At the moment there are, I think, 6?
House Atreides
House Harkonnen
House Corrino
The Spacing Guild
The Bene Gesserit Sisterhood
The Fremen*
*I think they should ideally be pre-FTL and native to Arrakis, so you can discover them and choose to uplift or enslave them, but I have no idea if this is possible or desirable to other team members or gamers?
If we need a further 6 to 7, possible options would maybe include:
House Moritani
House Ecaz
House Richese
House Vernius
The Bene Tleilaxu
House Ginaz
House Thorvald
Further info about possible Houses available here: http://dune.wikia.com/wiki/House
Other things to think about, in no particular order:
CHOAM, Spice Melange (resource unique to Arrakis?), sandworms on Arrakis (events?), Mentats, Assassins, the Synchronized Worlds (a Fallen Empire?)
I guess we should take things slowly at first, though, as I am struggling to even get a new race to work in the game, even when using the guides on the Wiki :/

As you said, for a start we can keep playing with the cosmetic part of the module. I think our first mission is to figure out how to assign specific clothing and acessories to specific races (houses).
Jade Falcon just send me some very neat textures for Atreides uniforms and he will work in some Corrinos next. Any idea how we programm this part?
Also, for new suggested houses I would include the Smuglers.;-)
Might be best just to get the main six done and then go from there. You never know how long this kind of thing takes and it might be better not to go too crazy right away.
As you say the main priority is really figuring out how the clothing is added. I do think we will have to create custom races so we can change the bodies etc.
Well it will either be Corrino or Harkonnen next. Haven't decided till I start them.
Fogot to say that you will need custom races if you want to add hats and helmets to outfits. You need to do the textures as hair for them to work.
In terms of other ideas, it is very wise to keep me reined in, as I have started Dune mods for a number of games in the past (Endless Space, Galactic Civilisations 2 etc.) and never finished them due to being over-ambitious!
I know what you mean. I worked on a few Warhammer 40K mods and they were always too ambitious which always leads to stuff never getting finished. At the end of the day real life often gets in the way and mod teams always lose people at some point or others get bored because the project is too ambitious and too insane.
Personally I would be happy with just the main six factions and suitable outfits and background for them all. If we can figure out how to do custom events in the future that would be awesome but I can still enjoy a Dune themed game of Stellaris without them.
Custom ships would be great but would take ages. I actually model in 3d but I used 3ds Max and Paradox in their wisdom use a Maya exporter. Plus I really don't have the spare time for making models anymore.
End of the day it depends a lot on how much the good Captain wants to do.
This mod started as somenthing personal and grow bigger than I expected and I am very proud of what we achieved so far. If we can keep making this little cosmetic modifications to make the game Dune themed it will be much more than I intended in the first place.
I think the great tip is to not freak out in recreate all the little details of Dune universe in the game, but makes somenthing recongnizable and fun for the fans.
Or, at least, keep it to the discussion threads :p
Merging with tincanrocket's mod is a really good idea and his textures look great so I don't really see what use I will be to you. My textures could really do with improvement anyway. If I had the time I would rework them.
Apologies again. I don't intentionally go out of my way to waste peoples time. Good luck with the mod. :)
