Suggestions for Changes to Sol Unleashed
This discussion is to provide extra room to make proposals for changes to Sol Unleashed. I'm very receptive to such proposals, particular those which help to create a more believable Milky Way galaxy.

According to web site Universe Today the sun is white when observed from white contrasting with the yellow colour when viewed from earth. This may have something to do with the blue light from the sun diffusing within our atmosphere.

Is changing the colour of the sun and other stars with similar characteristics an option that could be made available in your mod to make it more realistic?

Hi, the problem is that the sun is a G class star i.e. a yellow dwarf, so I think it needs to be the same colour as other yellow dwarves, such as alpha centauri, tau ceti and capella. It may be that I could get a truer colour by making it an F class star, but then it would be inconsistent with the colour of the other G class stars.

I think to achieve what you're looking for you need a revamp of the colours of the star classes, which is really beyond the scope of what I want to do with this mod. If you're interested you could look to see whether there's a 'true star colour' mod, as that would probably give you what you need, and it would probably be compatible with my own mod.

As a short term fix, if it really bothers you, you could go into my prescripted_species_systems.txt file search through for all instances of 'Sol' and change the class to "sc_f". It would only take a minute to do that.

Under normal circumstances, I'd be happy to provide a specific option, but the prescripted_species_systems.txt is already enormous and it would double the file size to implement the change you're asking for.

Hope this helps.

I thank you for your prompt and courteous reply. Given the difficulties involved I'm happy to run with the mod as is.
My initial request comes from curiosity and the desire to challenge accepted concepts to get at what is real. That your mod seeks to make a sol start more realistic is for me a big plus.

Could you add some more custom starts please? I've had some ideas already:

1) Alpha Centauri, basically starts you off there. Maybe with a desert or arid Earth at Sol. Everything else generated as if you started on Sol.

2) Sol: Martian War, like normal Sol start but with a pre-FTL space age Martian civilisation. Maybe with a variation that lets you start on Mars with pre-FTL space Earth.

Intersting options. I could certainly do any or all of those. Will need to think about the best way to do it, and whether it's possible to do it without replicating the 600 star systems for every possible start. I'll have a think about it.

Would it be possible to keep the names, but have randomly-generated systems for the stars?
ositodefelpa  [developer] 4 Jul, 2016 @ 10:47am
Do you still want the stars to be in the correct order from Sol, and to have the correct class, or are you just looking for game which uses these star names, with everything else randomised? I'm trying to establish to what extent you would like to see it randomised.

In any event, yes I could provide the option.

You should add Enceladus to Saturn. It's the most interesting moon in the system, I don't know why none of these mods add it.

I think they omit it because it's less than half the size of the five biggest moons. Who says size isn't everything ;-)

Small suggestion - I feel like Proxima Centauri could do with a planet in light of the recent discovery of an actual exoplanet orbiting it.

Also, re: Enceladus, I usually change Tethys to Enceladus. I feel like, although it's smaller, it has the possibility of liquid water which makes it a bit more interesting. Not a suggestion, just an observation.

What he said, Enceladus is a far more prominent moon than Tethys despite it's small size thanks to having water.

Compatilbilty for Planetary Diversity for the Sol System? This would make Mars a Post-Garden World and Venus a Hot-House and Titan a Methane world.

Could Proxima Centauri get its planet? Also, seconded on the Planetary Diversity suggestion.

Also making a case for Proxima Centauri. Actually, maybe add 4-5 planets around it, with Proxima III being a continental world as a shout-out to Babylon 5?

Maybe add the "terraforming candidate" anomaly to Mars? The vanilla game has it.
