I had one thought, why is the destroyer class ship the Helcyon model and not the Halbeard, the ship you use as a destroyer in SOTP? I like the Helcyon but it is a heavy cruisers not a destroyer . I was just thinking, love the ships.

@kjcarlson1017 currently we have the ships which fit best along a scale of power and are more memorable ships. When we have the expanded roster ready we will definitely be fitting in the rest of the ships in a more complete way. So the Halberd will be the destroyer after that happens.

The models for the human destroyer and cruiser seem almost identical in size and design (cruiser actually seems a bit smaller). Is that intentional?

@RoqueSkyKnight could you provide screenshots? There have been some reports of issues with the scale of our ships in stellaris though the cruiser and destroyer should be the Marathon and Halcyon respectively and the two are around the same size though have some overall design differences. A screenshot would help us understand the issues you're having much easier.

The Halcyon and Marathon are intended to be similar in size. The Marathon is slightly larger, but not by much.

Sure thing,

Here's a top down view with the cruiser on the left and destroyer on the right: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=754004994

Frontal view with cruiser on the left and destroyer on the right:

Side by side view with the cruiser in the foreground:

And this last one is just a reference picture showing what I had been expecting:

The cruiser in the last one isn't a lot bigger, but much more so than in the Stellaris mod at the moment.

Yeah unfortunately that reference was made by someone who didn't actually know the scale. We should remove it.
sookendestroy1 28 Aug, 2016 @ 7:46pm
@RogueSkyKnight The Halcyon Class Light Cruiser on the right, ironically the ship in the destroyer slot is 1.17 km long and the Marathon Class Heavy Cruiser on the left is 1.19 km long, so they are relatively similar in size canonically, as well the two share the Bungie era Halo aesthetic so they are fairly similar in design.

Putting the actual UNSC destroyer in there would also be disorienting, because the Halberd-class Destroyer is actually smaller than the Paris-class Frigate.
RogueSkyknight 28 Aug, 2016 @ 10:24pm
Glad to hear it's working as intended then. Guess my only feedback (other than this mod is awesome and I can't wait for the full one) would be for a more distint/larger cruiser. :) Thanks for all the responses!

@RogueSkyKnight Glad to hear! We hope to implement extended ships classes and more so hopefully our full roster can satisfy that.

Bit surprised to see Halcyon class as destroyer myself, but it does make sense in firepower aspect of original non-refitted Halcyon class.

Still, being a destroyer class in game makes them too... destructible, while Halcyons were well known for its resilience. Another thing is when I eventually research kinetic artillery type weapons, which is essentially a MAC variant in Stellaris, it is almost impossible to mount it on destroyer class ships in-game. (it essentially impossible for corvettes for that matter.)

It might be better to make them as both variant in cruiser class, using ship designer's module system to make it selectable, but I'm not sure how you can force people to use it as intended. Same could be said about various designs of frigates.

Just hope there were some type of corvette-variant ship in UNSC roster to replace corvette in game and make frigates and destroyers in UNSC fleet as destroyer variants. I'd like to keep UNSC frigates as backbone of any UNSC fleets, but as game progresses further, I usually stop replenishing corvettes over destroyers. Seeing tens of Halcyons in a fleet and seeing most of them go down is bit... immersion breaking in my opinion.

@Harbinger The halcyon is merely there because it fits along that spectrum of power for the vanilla ship slots, we hope to implement new ship classes and more so that we can fit in our entire roster as well as make the ships better fit what they should canonically represent. Once the Stellaris 1.3 patch comes out we plan on using their spinal weapons mount system so we are reluctant to put too much into changing the ships until then. As well the balance as well as any major code changes (like damage and armour etc.) will come later in development.

We might swap out the Halcyon for the Halberd once 1.3 lands, even if the Halberd is smaller than the Paris in actuality.

I also have uploaded a new patch, which tweaks the ship sizes notably for Covenant, makes the CCS look better, and slightly downsizes the Halcyon.

@Lavo are you planning to make this compatible with the "more ships mod" and correspondingly more types of ship classes (Frigates etc)?
