Rule of thumb on how many of the different kinds of buildings you need?
Hello there fellow basebuilders!

I'm in doubt on how many water towers, heaters, deep wells, electric pumps, water filtration plants, sewage treatment plants, etc, that I need per colonist. Currently, I am playing with 12 colonists, but I aim for about 40. Do you guys/gals have any general suggestion on how many of the different kinds of buildings I will need each? That would be greatly appreciated :)

for 40 odd pawns you probably only need a shallow well with a water treatment system, or a deep well which is safe from pollution. A small pump + wind backup, a small water tower 2nd for backup, a couple of sewage outlets + maybe a septic tank for buffer.

If you want to use irrigation then large towers and industrial pumps.

Then for hot water either 1 boiler with 2 hot water tanks, maybe 3 tanks if you use lots of baths, or just power showers which eliminates the need for boilers.

With radiators you can do something like 18 bedrooms off 1 boiler, go gas if you have rimefeller and can pipe into chemfuel tanks, or electric and keep increasing the power level as you scale up, and use the thermostat properly so the boiler rarely needs to be on

Thank you for the reply! So if I go with 2 deep water wells, 2 water treatment plants, 2 pumping stations, 1 huge water tower, 4 hot water tanks and 2 boilers, that should cover my colonists decently? Also, is 1 sewage treatment enough to recycle the water, instead of building a sewage outlet? Also, how do I see what is lacking in terms of the different utilities? Say, in case that the sewage treatment plant is not able to keep up the pace with the rest of the plumbing system? Lastly, is the thermostat irrelevant on a tropical/desert biomes (due to year long hot temperatures)? Hope it is not too many questions, your previous answer was really helpful :)

on a desert map where you dont need radiators then you can either use a boiler with thermostat control from the hot water tanks, or just use solar water heaters if you have the space.

water treatment is the one for filtering water so its always clean, only need 1 on the entire pipe net, sewage treatment is the big circular sewage plant and you'll only ever need 1 of those since it works so fast, its for handling any sized colony, and you wont need the industrial water pumps and large water storage unless you're using irrigation, toilets and showers don't use much, it would take 40 pawns all having a bath a day rather than shower to get anywhere near the 10,000L from the industrial pumps
