HOW TO SETUP COLORSETS
It is now possible to set a predefined colorset (see the list below) for each dino, female and male version.
some creature like ants do not have a gender. in this case the male version is used.

After starting ark with this mod installed, several ini entries are written to the GameUserSettings.ini
here is an example for the island map, there will be a section for each played map.
[ColoredVanillaDinos TheIsland] Default=1 Megalosaurus=1 Direwolf=1 Stag=1 Anky=1 Mammoth=1 Sabertooth=1 Rex=1 Argent=1 ...

These entries are automatically created by this mod.
If this does not happens, use the "admincheat saveworld" command
to save the world and write the GameUserSettings.ini


each entry defines the colorsets for all (Default=) or each individual creatures (i.e. Direwolf=1)

[Creature]=[Female Colorset],[Male Colorset]

There is only one female and one male colorset possible.

the following formats are available (see below for a list of names of the available colorset)

set Default=, if you do not want a global colorset for all creatures, each dino keeps its own colorset.

Example 1:
Direwolf=DarkLight
this entry sets the colorset for both, male and female direwolf.

Example 2:
Direwolf=
if you leave the value empty, than the mod default colorset (RandomAll) is used.

Example 3:
Direwolf=Green,Red
the first parameter is the female colorset, the second the male colorset
in this example the female colorset is the Green colorset and the male colorset
is the Red colorset
Example 4:
Direwolf=Blue,
the first parameter is the female colorset, the second the male colorset
here is female the Blue colorset and the male colorset is the default Ark colorset

Example 5:
Direwolf=,Blue
the first parameter is the female colorset, the second the male colorset
here is female the Ark default colorset, because it is empty and the male colorset is the Blue colorset

Example 6:
Direwolf=,
if you enter only a comma, then the Ark creature specific colorsets for
female and male are used.
in this example it is WolfFur for both female and male wolfs


The 1 is the default colorset and the same as RandomAll and
contains all colores available in Ark except the basecolors: Red,Yellow,Green,Blue,Magenta,Cyan.

If you want also the base colors included, change the 1 to RandomMale, which also contains the base colors.
The RandomFemale contains more colors as the default colorset RandomAll, but also not the base colors.

OPTIONAL INI Option in the GameUserSettings.ini
The following entry prints a list of all available colorsets to the logfile.
[ColoredVanillaDinos TheIsland] Debug=True

Could you make a way to turn off the random colors for specific dinos? I've used several mods that add dinos which rely on a specific coloring ot set them apart from everything else but this mod in combination when those mods ruins that. However, I love the random colors on the non-modded dinos.

If there were a way to set these .ini values to -1 for disable or something, that would be awesome because I could have the random colors on vanilla dinos and still have the modded ones use their intended colors.

I have updated the info above to be more clear how the Default= works.
You can turn of the colorset for each creature:
Default=,
YOURDINONAME=,

set Default to , so the female and male colorset is empty.
set the name of your dino, which should use its own colorset also to ,

The mod creates the list of dinos in the gus.ini automatically, this works 100% in single player, but not always on the server (i do not know, what the ark devs have changed).
If you need this list on your server, first start a single player game and copy the ini entries to the server ini.

@gg fizz, if you want all colors for all dinos, you do not need any ini entry to change. If you want a direwolf to be colored and no other dino, you do the following entry:
Default=,
Direwolf=RandomFemale,RandomMale

or if you want only the direwolf male to be colored:
Default=,
Direwolf=,RandomMale

is there any way to give a dino multiple color sets? like if i wanted a equus to possibly be red blue or black?

no, not in this version of the mod. but i will look into the idea to merge colorsets

Would it be possible to have a breakdown of the custom colorsets (for example what Light colorset includes and so on)

Nothing from this mod is written to my GameUserSettings.ini. Server has auto-saved the world many times.

I use Ark Server Manager to launch the server. I don't know if this prevents anything being written to the GameUserSettings.ini, but it does have it's own GUI for managing mod entries and their values.

Edit:
I ran it in single player and the mod generated the code in the local GameUserSettings.ini. I copied and pasted from there and added it through the Ark Server Manager GUI. I suspect Ark Server Manager is the reason why it has never written to the server's GameUserSettings.ini.

I did try but fail, what's the quickest way to give only females (any dino) a random color but keep males as Ark default.
Would I have to make "Default=RandomFemale," and also the same for each and every dino entry?
I tried setting only the default but seems then and would make sense that the individual dino settings would override the default.

With "Default=RandomFemale," and each other dino entry at ...=1 the males also received vibrant non ark default colors which is not what I wanted.

you can only set Default and delete all other entries (backup first)
or set each individual dino

That's what I did first and I still got colorful males, will try again, if not I have a simple way to add entries for each one.

The mod should fill the ini with the dinos, you can change the ini with search & replacé easily.

Yup, working as intended with only coloring females, imported the ini from SP game as on DS it didn't fill in the ini as you had remarked above.
