UPDATE:, Then they suddenly show up where they shouldn't, and trying to retrieve them makes them nose dive into the ground and explode.
The "lag" seems to be specific to use of trams.
Rail hooks appear unaffected, or if they are then it's not noticeable.
They cover a span of 5 'Cores' in a space station, and one of those cores (at an end-point of the rail) is the access-point for a section with various crops.
Not too many objects on or around the path otherwise though.
Just re-tested, paying closer attention and varying things, and I think that it very well may be a case of having more than a handful of objects in the same chunk as the rail itself.
The stuttering kicks in when passing or approaching such areas, and does seem worse the more there are.
At least I know what's causing it, though I imagine that's not really fixable on your end and is just an issue with how Starbound itself handles things.
