Simple sidearms

lag on pawn selection the more sidearms are equiped/shown on gui.v1.2
i think many are experiencing this. any lag goes away if i drop all weapons and tools/melee. FPS is dropping to 7-8 when trying to move around,making it impossible to real time move around pawns,defend raids even paused trying to move is a massive pain...

I am having the same issue. I had a lot of tools from VE equipped (cleaver, wrench, hammer, scalpel, pickaxe, hatchet), as well as two guns (sniper and battle rifle) and two melee weapons (mace and laser sword) and the game would lag whenever I had the colonist selected.

I did some testing and I couldn't figure out whether it was a particular combination that caused the lag, but found that more sidearms I had equipped, the more it would lag.

There was not a significant lag when I only had 3 or 4 sidearms equipped.

The issue only recently started occurring (I think).

I might add that this mod is great and I will just use less sidearms to avoid the lag.

Just thought it would be worth making the comment anyway so that others are aware of the potential FPS hit.

Have had this issue since I started using the mod. 3 weapons/tools etc. is about the tolerable level. 4 is stretching it, and beyond is just... no. Game will be playable, but any combat situation where you have pawns selected will be unpleasant, as the game drops to ~15 fps.

A bummer, as it does allow solid use of the tools from vanilla expanded to be used without getting a headache over the constant micro management. Especially love the "use as tool" feature for non-violent capable pawns. If we could at least have a minimum cap of 8-10 items without performance issues, I would be happy.

Example use case:
1 long range/large main weapon
1 short/medium range weapon
1 grenade/utility weapon/consumeable weapon?
~4 tools

My entire game is lagging to 15 fps and i have only 5 colonist my specs:
-amd Ryzen 5 3600x
-RTX 2070 super
-32 gb ram

I experienced the same issue, More Sidearms = more lag with the safe spot being around 4 per pawn. Using tools from VE as others stated. As a work around I switched from tool use to researchable stat upgrades and clothing with bonus stats for work:

Tools is a cool idea but a bit broken if you try to use it to its full effect.

Sadly grab your tool has some minor issues when it comes to recognizing what to equip in some situations, but overall it works pretty well. Maybe if it had some more attention it may be worked on further

Regardless it doesn't look like this issue is getting addressed any time soon.

Was not aware it's simple sidearm that makes the game freeze, selecting a pawn with quite some tools/weapons on them. But tested it just now, and yes with less stuff equipped I can suddenly move the camera again.

@Elysium thank you for recommending these mods, didn't know them yet and will look into them and maybe switch to them too!

Yeah, the lag is very unbearable. The game will seriously slow to a halt on selecting multiple colonists. Prisoners, Enemies, NPCs, and anyone who isn't a colonist having a mental breakdown will put me into 0.5 fps.

it seems to be specifically when the icons have a grey background, if a pawns icons has that striped background it doesnt lag.

That's because striped means they're carrying but don't have it actively as a weapon to use

hmm, what decides that? Also im trying to find in the code what causes the lag, im assuming its checking something constantly. Wondering if there is a way to limit it.
