This is a bug. It seems I skipped over testing of v44 decompiling somehow. I'll have this fixed and released within a few days. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Any Crowbar Alternatives?
Crowbar is simply an interface to the real model compilers made by Valve. Each game or SDK usually comes with a compile tool with the file name of "studiomdl.exe".

You can try the model compiler that comes with Source Filmmaker. Maybe it has a large enough limit.

  • FIX: "View as Replacement" of a model using an ANI file causes HLMV to crash or fail to show animations past a certain frame. Fixed for MDL versions 48 and 49.
  • FIX: Decompiling a version 44, 48, or 49 MDL that only contains animations without an ANI file stops the decompile with this message: ERROR: ANI file not found.
  • FIX: MDL version 44 does not decompile. (Needed to finish the conversion of Crowbar to handle v44 properly.)
  • FIX: Not all MDL version 10 models are decompiling. (Incorrect check for texture MDL file caused decompile to fail.)

This is probably a bug with Crowbar. I will look into it.

[DONE][REQ] Clicking View in View tab without a model selected opens the viewer without a loaded model
This feature appears in Crowbar 0.30 as "Open Viewer" button.

[FIXED][BUG] Left 4 Dead 2 Recompiled Francis and Louis Models Have Animation Errors
I tested with Crowbar 0.29 decompiling and recompiling "survivor_manager.mdl" as described above and I saw no errors. Jigglebones had no problems in the compile.

I am leaving this bug report open due to the anims-recompile issue.
