I used this week's competition as a finger exercise in Hammer and built a map from scratch. My entry is not supposed to be easy and I hope this doesn't automatically disqualify me ;)

After playing all maps again, here's my vote:

1. "Hard Light" by Prototype: everything in plain sight ... still challenging and versatile solution.
2. "Crossing" by cyhborg: simple layout ... great concept (and a good title!).
3. "Bridging Ways" by nintendo.erk: more on the logical side with great use of the lightbridge.

I liked all submitted maps but I found that the above three were most fun for me while clearly staying in the lightbridge area. The most noteworthy among the other maps is definitely camerson's submission. It was hard and took some time to solve. But since it included so much flinging and blue gel on top I decided against taking it into my top 3.

As a challenge, I was trying to implement a Rubik's cube sort of gadget in Hammer. You can download the result here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/arup836yrg17bzk/rotor_cube%20beta.bsp.

In case you don't know: just copy the file into your portal2/maps folder, open the console in Portal 2, type 'map rotor_cube beta', and hit return.

Actually, this map is not really a beta version, it's more of an alpha version. I'd like to know whether this sort of puzzle is remotely interesting or rather frustrating. If you have any ideas for an interesting puzzle with this mechanic I'd also be interested in that. Or if you have any other comments that'd be fine, too! :)

The relation of the two models you used: pedestal_base_reference (the hole in the floor) and pedestal_center_reference (the stand itself). I usually add the base model into the map first, then I copy it at the exact same spot and change it to the center_reference. If you do that the portalgun stand will have a very specific position in relation to the base. It will be lowered into the base about two units deep and I think that's the 'intended' way of using those two models together.

I remember this map driving me crazy half a year ago ... I'll give it another try some time soon ;D
