Down Votes
Now now... both of you. Lets stop discussing why you vote a map up or down, and lets continue where Innocentive wants this discussion to be heading to: Dealing with receiving negative votes.

Given that I can understand why people would vote down in certain occasions, I too have mysteriously received negative votes and couldn't understand why. But on the same note, I have received lots of up votes on a particular map where I couldn't understand why either.

My map: "The mountain" is my first map where I had a PeTI map made first, then ported it to hammer to add texture, a skybox and some custom elements. It even has a hidden easter egg.

The map itself is not that hard. Its about flinging and I guess there is one small ninja jump in it. If it is that ninja jump that everyone hated that they turned the map down, or maybe just the fact that it looks spectacular becaues of non-standard textures, and then people find out it really isn't? I honestly don't know. Did I feel offended, yes. I put so much work in the map and I get no indication why people voted it down. Should it be changed? No. To people writing is a lot harder than to press a button, and if they only can press that button under certain circumstances, they soon will not press the button at all nor write something. Then I have no clue at all that my map somehow sucks.

But this kind of voting system is very common. Its also used on youtube and other places.

The other map where I got lots of upvotes is: Hammer Test 1. It is a straightforward map with 2 pedastal buttons, a cube dropper and a cube button. There isn't really a puzzle, just a bit of visual gimmicky. I even warn people not to play the map, yet they did and I receive lots of upvotes. weird...
