Tried PirateFi, anyone?
Looks like a fake free game was advertised on Steam and off-Steam for quite a while, until players managed to reach to support with reports that the ‘game’ installs a trojan and steal login information for lots of known websites which it then sends to the trojan creator. More on this is here (yeap, for one time Russians were not the scammers, but the alarmers; ignore the flood, the original post is updated with main info, as for its fake reviews, they are currently still up).

I just got an email from Valve about this.

As always, make sure you use 2FA everywhere you can.

Shady developers don't just stop at asset flipping and fake reviews. Their goals are much, much more insidious.

If you're curious about what the game was, you can see here:

So it was basically a 1:1 asset flip of a survival game asset pack. And yes the reviews are from Mipped/Obzor.

Hey all,

The game has made some news headlines today as it was confirmed to contain malware. Steam have sent emails out today to affected users.

I'll be issuing a group statement on the game tomorrow.

One wonders if it's possible the malware pusher compromised the accounts of the Obzor/Mipped reviewers creating the fake reviews.

Probably not, but it's an amusing thought.
Another one too called Sniper: Phantom's Resolution

This will most likely become more common as more fake games are put on steam filled with bad stuff. This makes me sad.

Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better.

The more Valve gets in the news for this, the more likely they are to take action and make changes to improve the safety of the store.

this reminds me of a tradegdy close to where i live. This woman crossed the street and got killed. Eventually they put a red light there, which worked for awhile, but then people complained about it and took it down eventually. At least for awhile a bad thing made a good thing happen, but it did not last very long.
