There's someone who mentioned to me on Discord that they
couldn't press 'enter' in Big Picture mode at the step that requires the Controller Profile Link to be pasted. I'm currently searching for any solution on the internet.

Aherin
Hey man I replied on Discord but I'll let you know here too. It seems that as steam has been updated my instructions no longer apply. Apparently you can still get it to work by manually searching for the controller config as follows:

- Open Big Picture Mode (icon in the upper right, or, under the "View" menu tab)
- Library
- Select "Torchlight 2"
- In the left-side menu, select "Manage Game"
- Select "Controller Configuration"
- Next screen shows your controller. At the bottom, click "Browse Configs"
- Select "Community" category
- Find and select Aherin's configuration called: "TL2 Universal Binding (with cursor Off/On)"
- Click "Apply Configuration"
- Done

TwiZteR:
are there any plans for Controller-Support in TL2 on PC?
would like to play TL2 chilling on the couch.

steffire3:
I haven't read anything official or planned. We do have third party mod support for Steam and Xbox 360 Controller if you're interested in that:
According to the mod author:
if the Player assigns a Steam Controller Profile onto a Xbox One Controller then it will also function even if the button visuals are different.

steffire3:
Greetings! I had a question from the Play Torchlight Discord by someone whom was
trying to get an 'Xbox 1' Controller to work with the Xbox 360 Controller Mod
on the Workshop for Torchlight_2 and failed. Do you have info on what would be required that I can give another modder to enable that functionality? I assume it wouldn't be too different from the instructions posted on the mod page only with different scripts.

Aherin:
Hey man I just saw your message on here. I replied on discord asking for more info but it looks like all he wants is to use his xbox one controller with my xbox 360 mod?

I actually did that before without too much trouble. It's simply a case of applying the controller profile that I made to his xbox one controller.

As long as he can get steam to recognise his controller ie he can navigate in big picture mod etc then he should be able to search for my profile.

Here's the instructions from another user:

- Open Big Picture Mode (icon in the upper right, or, under the "View" menu tab)- Library- Select "Torchlight 2"- In the left-side menu, select "Manage Game"- Select "Controller Configuration"- Next screen shows your controller. At the bottom, click "Browse Configs"- Select "Community" category- Find and select Aherin's configuration called: "TL2 Universal Binding (Xbox 360 Controller)"- Click "Apply Configuration"- Done

Actually to be safe, here's the full instructions:

1) Ensure the Xbox 360 controller is connected and enabled in Steam:-
"Steam" menu tab- Settings- Controller- "General Controller Settings" button. Make sure "XBox Configuration Support" is check-marked in the list.
Your controller should be listed under the "Detected Controllers" field.

2) Find and apply Aherin's controller profile:-
Open Big Picture Mode (icon in the upper right, or, under the "View" menu tab)- Library- Select "Torchlight 2"- In the left-side menu, select "Manage Game"- Select "Controller Configuration"- Next screen shows your controller.
At the bottom, click "Browse Configs"- Select "Community" category- Find and select Aherin's configuration called: "TL2 Universal Binding (Xbox 360 Controller)"- Click "Apply Configuration"- Done!

Obviously replace 'Xbox 360 controller' with 'Xbox One controller' :)

Does my TL2 version number matter?
BotleA
2 questions, 1. The last version from steam is 1.25.5.6? (that's because I've seen in other sites that handle versions like "1.25.9.6 or 1.25.9.5a") and 2. when I play with mods in the window that shows you all the mods that you are charging, in the 'Status' says "Compiled for outdated Game version", what this means?

BotleA
forget the question number 2, I found out the reason for that phrase  , but now, I change for another, regardless of whether the mod was created for an earlier version of the game, anyway this mod is loaded and works, right?:grimacing:

Zidders
@Cruel Beans I'm pretty sure you're spot on and I'm going to bet you're one of the few people if not the only one to make that connection.

Etrigan
@BotleA When it comes to version #'s, the first two #'s are the most important which looks like you have the latest version. The last 2 #'s just indicate what distribution platform you are running the game from and what OS the game is running on.
I would think the mod should run unless otherwise stated by the mod author in their description.

BotleA
@Etrigan , thanks for the answers

Etrigan
You're welcome

steffire
@BotleA I just want to add to the answer of the mod question:
Because the TL2 patches after 2014 were basically language patches. No major code overhauls occurred. Even if the mod was made before 2014 the "Nether Realm Content" patch didn't break anything either.
So if a mod is crashing or contains issues then it's a problem with the mod itself or incompatibility between mods.

Recommended Mod Load Order List General Advice
@Joshua
I would say:

Points, Numbers and Texture Edits 1st on Top
UI between 1st and 2nd
Items, Vendors and Loot Drops 2nd
Class Packs 3rd
Small Dungeon Challenges 4th
Big Overhaul Adventure Packs Last at Bottom

If a Patch or Addon Mod is installed then those usually go above their respective mods that are meant to be expanded or patched.

However some players report that sometimes reversing this recommendation works better for them. It can vastly change depending on whether the game is running properly with these mods.

Some mods like Darkthan's Classes although really fun are quite prone to crashes when paired with other Class Packs. A safe bet is Variant, Fep+ and Synergies together.

Some advice from Potterman:

The load order works the following.

Each mod modifies a set of files. For instance, a UI mod will modify files related to UI. Bigger mods like Synergies will modify a bunch of files - including monsters, skills, UI, ...

When two mods modify the same file, you need to know who takes precedence. For instance, if both Synergies and Haknslash Essentials modify the file for the Grell boss, then you need to know which one will be actually used.

The load order does that. The mods at the top will take precedence over the mods at the bottom.

That's why it is not recommended to have multiple mods touching the same thing. For instance, two overhaul mods usually don't go together well. For instance, if you put Unearthed Arcana on top of Synergies, you will get all the great items from Synergies, but you will get the slightly modified but still vanilla enemies from Unearthed Arcana, resulting in a very easy experience, since both modify the enemies stats, but only Synergies modify the items.

My advice is really to stick to mods that don't overlap each others. And to only include overlapping mods when you really know what you're doing.
Finally a good explanation of how this works. I've been guessing and surmising this from comments that have been made on previous threads, but I never really knew for sure. Thanks for this.

Skills, Scrolls and Pet Collars with Tags:
@CoolFool1O1
Well TL2 regards Spells and Skills as different options. For me my favorite Skills are anything with Resource Regen or Life Steal (usually Engineer or Berserker respectively). Can never go wrong with more resources flowing in from battle.
I can build the rest of the Skills around the resources as a foundation.

For Spells (or as I call them more literally: Scrolls) I like to equip my Pet and my Character with vastly different ones.
For my Character I prefer to equip Passive Scrolls like Concentration and Willpower (Small Mana Regen and Immobile Stun Resist). Then I may equip Dervish (Large amounts in a short time: Attack and Cast Speed) along with Blocking Tome to support Shields or some Weapon Passive either Dual Wielding or Melee / Range Tomes.
For Pets I like to equip 1 Web (Immobile foes) and 3 different levels of that Ice Blast (e.g. 1,2,3 up to 4,5,6). The Pet can become a mighty attacker with that setup.
For Pet Collars and Tags I like to equip ones at any Rarity as long as they have a chance to Stun, Silence or Break Shields against foes.

@CoolFool1O1
One of my favorite mods is the Red Mage which contains my favorite Scrolls that any Class can use:
Exclusive Spell Scrolls:
Red Mage MOD adds exclusive Spell Scrolls based on Final Fantasy spells and skills. See them below.

*Scroll of Dia, Diara, Diaga and Diaja > Dia skills only hits undead monsters. They cause a good damage, blind and reduce their defenses.
*Scroll of Teleport > A Teleport skill that quickly realocates your player and grants a little bonus to flee rate for a short time.
*Scroll of Poison > A weaker version of Bio available as Spell.
*Scroll of Death > Death instant kill an enemy, but won't work on Bosses.
*Scroll of Blaze and Blazega > Launches a cold fireball that deals Ice and Fire damage.
*Scroll of Regen and Regenga > A white magic that gradually recovers your Health.
*Scroll of Gravity Bomb > Launches a gravitational bomb that tears off 25% of enemies Max HP.
*Scroll of Quake > Punches the ground with your fist dealing Physical damage in a wide area.
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=184946792&searchtext=red+mage

I don't know if Viz kept those in the Variant mod which also has the Red Mage... however for sure the original mod does have them.

The Basis for various Engineer Builds
Sword Board

For Engineer: Sword Board Bots:

Remove Flame Hammer immediately then eventually get only 1 point of Ember Hammer. Maximize Forcefield, Healing Bot and Coup de Grace. Then get 10 points of Onslaught and max Gun Bot. Get 1 point in Storm Burst. Max the late Skills of Fire Bash, Sledgebot, Immobile Copter and Emberquake.
I need to write a Steam Guide on the details of why this nets the most defense and damage for the Sword Board Build. Basically these Skills work well together and are the most efficient options.

Alternatively if you don't want to wait for the Late Skills then maximize all the Early Skills and invest any remaining points into the Late Skills.
Either way, a healthy stat spread would be 100 Dexterity, Focus and Vitality. 200 Strength. Randomly find and Enchant gear with Boris to empower this further whenever possible.
For the actual equipped Shield: The Town Vendors may randomly sell a Rare Tier Shield that has a 30% Chance to Reflect Missiles. This is always the best defensive Affix to use.

= = =

For Engineer: Sword Board Pure:

Work in Progress.

Board Swap Cannon

Work in Progress.

General Purpose Physical Weapon Engineer

If you want a truly Vanilla build then I recommend these Skill Investments for a Pistol Engineer (I assume Dual Wield with no Shield):
Ember Reach and Tremor will increase your Physical (That's usually good for Pistol) Damage and Storm Burst is good for Escaping and Entering fights. Everything else is useful and easy to wield.

Emberquake Fire Bash Engineer:

[1:16 PM] steffire: @Stormrycon Always choose the Item with Focus (or any Stat) and Health (or any Resource) because these ultimately boost Damage and Defense far more than most other Affixes with few exceptions. If the Player really needs Cast and Attack Speed then those are better gained at greater numbers from Higher Level Set Equips.

[1:28 PM] steffire: @bebopken Only 1 point in Ember Hammer and Charge Domination then use until Emberquake is available and max it. Also max Heal Bot, Forcefield, Tremor, Fire Bash, Immobile Copter, Coup de Grace, Storm Burst. Pour the remaining 10 points into Onslaught. Invest 100 Dexterity, 200 Strength and 200 Focus. Buy with lots of Gold from Boris the Stat Enchanter randomly found in Dungeons to gain more Stats on High Level Items.

Zyguma's "Tai Chi Master" and "Counselor" Classes

The above quoted reply is shortened to save space however I have considered the entire response:

Ah... good questions asked.
  • 1st:
Yes, some Skills may be favored over others.
Sometimes Modders will make certain early Skills the main choice attack and the later Skills become Supportive with a few late large attacks with long cool downs. Although there are many other options available if you wish to use them.
Basically you are giving the player something and would you like them to use that something a certain way?

  • 2nd:
Vanilla Animations can be changed... fortunately we can borrow animations from mods like Fep+ and Variant. The community is quite helpful in saving time there.

  • 3rd:
I will let you decide if you feel something needs to be thematically appropriate (whether you feel the story is faithful to the final version of a Skill).
As for consistent game balance the consideration is this:
The Weapon always deals 100% of it's damage.
The question is whether you desire Skills to have less, the same, double (200% DPS) or higher damage with some kind of payment (longer cool downs or high mana costs even health costs if you wish)?
The Charge Bar can be used to lock some Skill use too (The Engineer is a good example that many mod classes use).
