After extracting the graphics I noticed that some of the avatars were sub par, some looked very CG and others looked like they had been retouched in 2d. Freya also missed an eye etc, so I started to do some work on them, but...

I suppose the only way to insert these into the game would be to do it through memoria, otherwise anyone who would want the mod would have to download a 1GB file? I might finish them or not, Zidane required a lot of photoshopping.

It might be worthy to note that they're not really HD backgrounds though, they're low res background with a photoshop filter applied to them. The main reason the backgrounds stand out is because the character is more crisp, easily fixed by lowering the resolution to 800x600. Unless you want to run around in manga cartoon chibi land which is basically what the photoshop filter does to the game.

Heh I looked through the strings, in theory you could play a sound before each dialouge box, voice acting?

I'm partly doing this because I gifted the game to someone on steam, I would be uncomfortable forcing him to play through something some hardcore nerd put together because he has already completed the game 50 times and wanna spend hours grinding. Ideally I think it should still be doable with next to no grinding, just slightly more exciting instead of just doing as much damage as you can without ever having to think of defence except using a potion or two when your hp is low. But thanks for the suggestion. ;)

Especially some of the more high profile bosses, Garland for example died way too easily. The tree you fight in the lifa tree can also be killed with a phoenix down which is kinda lame? Some bosses could remain as they are since they're not that imposing or supposed to be very powerful, the first couple of bosses for example. Anyway I'm gonna look into how difficult it is to accomplish.

From what I've seen those mods come with a lot of baggage, I'm gonna see if modifying the bosses is as easy as changing some values in some text file. If it's not that easy it's something we'll have to do without. I find it appealing to think about how one would make the bosses not necessarily harder just smarter, most boss mechanics are rather simplistic. Just do as much damage as you can to them as quickly as possible, there are exceptions but they are few and far between.

Albeoris recently released a new version of Memoria which made it possible to improve the steam version significantely. All that remains for the game to be completely fixed is a restructured battle UI. While exploring this steam port a bit further, now that it's not completely broken I realized there is room for additional improvements.

For example, on the main menu there is a blackjack mini game. It seems odd that it's there and not in the game. It couldn't be that hard to put it in the game right, just move one bit of code from one place to another? Maybe you could play blackjack with the pub girl in Dali, there would have to be a limit on how much you can bet, 500 gil maybe? That would be a worthwhile addition to the game, obviously you would remove it from the main menu.

Another thing that would improve the game would be harder bosses, you really have to struggle to not steamroll most of the bosses in this game. This could be done by just giving them additional hp but maybe even their AI could be modified, there are not that many bosses so if anyone know how to easily do it, it would be possible to accomplish something like this in an evening. So the improvements upon what we already got would be:

•Resized battle UI, character menu?
•Blackjack mini game in Dali.
•Smarter/harder bosses.

If you want to team up on these I'd be willing to help, heck just show me how to modify what skills or stats a boss uses and I could tinker with it myself. Just some brainstorming, none of it's really necessary except the battle UI, cheers.

What's the healers targeting to allies and zombies first? Does this mean whenever you select say a healing spell, that you'll automatically be given a hint that this enemy can take damage from healing spells? Will make it obvous for new players how to kill the boss in the lifa tree.

Anyway I thought I might as well ask in this thread. The launcher background, it looks a bit too anime for my taste and if possible before I upload the "vanilla modfication" I'd like to replace it with some footage from one of the CGI cutscenes in the game. I have named the background image back.png, but this doesn't work. Also if other people were to download and put this together they might not have installed the game under D but maybe C, is there maybe a way for it to just search the folder it's in for the background image?

Dwight your snide comments aren't appreciated, judging from your other thread I bet you're on the autism spectrum. That is fine but chill out, Albeoris wasn't "willing to help him". We had a very courteous conversation over pm, I explained the situation and offered to help him any way I can. One day you might learn to understand how both parties benefit from something if the interaction is conducted in a well mannered way with less *cough* autism.

It's not like you're in need of more features to benefit your modification to the game, you've already managed to add a futuristic font and techno music to the game. I just request a fix for a broken port, you want to "enhance the game" because you're tired of the old game which you've played through 120 times no doubt. A curious note, last time I played through this game was 15 year ago, I'm far from obsessed by it.

I bought it some months back for myself and for a buddy, buying the game twice is 80 dollars. 80 dollars wasted unless it's fixed which is why I asked for assistance. And after a lot of insults from mainly you and some "guy in a dog suit" the problem was fixed by mr Albeoris. Now go enhance the game with new stuff you pulled out of your arse and I'll create an unofficial patch with the help of Albeoris great program which removes all the android "features".
