Guide retired
Hi everyone,

As you might already have heard Valve retired the volunteer moderator program.

As a result it was discussed to retire certain things like pinned threads and guides, as some of them are simply not accurate anymore and worse, can not be maintained properly without the right tools.

This means we've retired the main guide that so many of you contributed to in the form of translations.

I can't express how sorry I am about doing that to all of you who put in countless hours translating these guides for the community, and am very grateful for you all doing that and making this such a big success.

I think it's only fair to let you guys decide what you want to do with 'your' guides, although it seems logical to me that they are all retired as well - things will change and we're honestly not sure what rules are being applied.

It's a shame, since the guides can still be relevant for anyone who's moderating in game hubs or large communities on Steam. I hope that they at least were of help while they were up.

I set mine (the Chinese ones) to unlisted for now so anyone who still has the link can find them, though I think the topic that they're posted in (the Chinese add friends megathread) will be unpinned soon, so it'll just disappear into obscurity.

I'm happy I got the chance to work on the guide and translate it, even though it didn't reach as wide of an audience as English did. Like Mio mentioned above, although the guides are a bit outdated on some parts, some of the things mentioned in them could still be useful. My idea on what to do with my translation is keep it up, but either remove or clearly mark outdated and obsolete information.

Also worth adding that you're all welcome to make new ones that are updated/applicable to hub moderation specifically. In fact that's probably the best approach. I can dump the actual guide contents tonight, if the archived link isn't enough.
