What is up with the pricing?
When you add a trade, trying to sell something you put up the full price. If noone is interested in buying it from you, you search for a trade looking for that specific item. Every single time you do that, and I mean every single time, people are offering HALF the price. This time, I was trying to sell my Clean Fast Learner, which is worth 5.33 ref, looked it up on outpost and most people were actually offering 3.33. Thats just not right, they removed 2 refined from the actual price. I dont see why anyone would put up with this, its just plain dumb. Selling something worth 5.33 for 3.33? No, no, no. It doesnt work that way. I saw a guy buying bills for 6 keys, thats even worse. They removed 2 keys, which is basically 7 refined, from something thats worth 8 keys. Why would anyone do that? I just want to know, would you people agree with these prices?

People always make the mistake of thinking that items have prices.
No item has a price, or any form of a value, there is no reason why a Burning flames TC should be worth anymore than an ubersaw. As we have seen from the whole fiasco involving Uncraft vitasaws and such, rarity doesn't always equal value.

"Prices" are based on arbitrary values drawn up by the community based on rarity and popularity, and are not official in any way whatsoever. Within reason, people have the freedom to price things at whatever they want.

This person gets it.

It's called "lowballing". And some people can't be arsed to wait for a better offer so they accept. Lowballers also like to use the terms "quick sell / quick buy". Welcome to trading.

You're way off on both counts.
1. Items have prices - in the in-game stores for both TF2 and Dota 2.
2. Items most definitely have value, otherwise they wouldn't be traded for.
Furthermore, items that are not being sold in the store have an even greater value.

Why don't you learn something about digital content before you start rambling nonsense?

I've been into trading for a while, and I know that its called lowballing. I just dont get it, why would anyone accept that price? Be lazy, try to sell it as quickly as possible, but make a good deal out of it, not a crappy one.

Welcome to trading.

I see where you are coming from, but in 99% of trading noone cares about store prices of an item. You miss the point Champ is making in that the market we exist in do have value, but its set by the community. Items in tf2 have no official value. its up to the supply and demand.

His point was nonsensical. And about the in-game price, I was just saying that because no matter how he, you or anyone else feels about it - the items have it. I never said value of items is determined by them, but the prices do exist. How else do you think content makers are making money? - By selling it.

The items have a "price" because we, the community gives them that "price". You keep saying that there is a price of an item clearly defined and that people would be crazy not to sell it at that price. your example in your OP with the fast learner at 5.33, who is making that price in refined? The community. if everyone wants to only pay 3.33 then the price will shift to match the accepted "value" that buyers are willing to pay. Buyers will always want to buy it at the lowest point and sellers want to sell at the highest point. To you it may seem like lowballing, but there is a difference between "speadsheet/whatever value" verses actual market price.

While its true that things in the store have a real world defined value in currency, i still would have to say that majority of traders dont buy store bought items other than keys. Store prices on items dont translate to a set value (sorta), and even if they did it wouldnt be as efficient in the conversion from store bought items to value.

Go and buy a Cow mangler 5000, now approach a person with a Team Captain.
Offer a 1:1 trade, by your logic, they should jump on it. CM5k is €7,49 in the store, and TC is €5.49. Your point is void. Values in the store do not reflect their so called "value" in TF2.

Peoplel accept lowballs' because they are either to impatient to wait for a good offer, or too new to trading to realize they are getting anally raped.

Nobel and Champelliot are obviously blind enough not to read anything I actually said, but they sure like to put their words in my mouth so I'm just gonna drop this and not waste my time.
His Wardship 4 Feb, 2013 @ 2:17pm
We weren't putting words in your mouth. You made a ridiculous statement, stating that " Items have prices - in the in-game stores for both TF2 and Dota 2.", as if the values in the stores reflected their so called value in game, and we disputed it.

I don't see anyone being blind. Either way, if you want to drop the conversation, I'll gladly comply.

I read every post in a thread before i post.

*Ok, they do have a price in store. Doesnt mean it has anything to do with the perceived value in the actual trading market.
**You miss the point Champ is trying to make, its like you didnt take the time to comprehend what was written. (youre getting hung up on the use of the word value. Champ says "A value")
***?i guess? not sure what youre getting at. Market prices are set by the community...
****based on the community supply and demand, what we have been talking about.
***** store prices =/= market price (we are talking about market price in this thread)

You guys claim no items in TF2 have value, if you really believe that then I'll trade trade you a key for a pair of buds.
