Torchlight 2 to my eyes seems a little disappointing.
I dunno, I had bought torchlight 2 a while back and I started looking at a few in game videos a while back. In all honesty it dun seem like they have changed much from the original. I understand what makes torchlight a good game and changing to much would obviously shake what makes it so good or outright stop it from being a sequal. but so far all I see is multiplayer, new graphics and different classes but its otherwise exactly the same game as torchlight 1. Is there more here that I havn't heard about or am I expecting too much? Would be great if there was far more to the game that I simply havn't heard about.

gotta go to sleep, so in short-

-open world
-end game content
-skill panes
-better loot
-better fishing
-better pet system
-better enchanting/merchants in general

and other stuff, just as said, gotta go to sleep, so can't think properly now :)
have you played torchlight 1? it had only level of dungeons leading down from the city, not open world not anything like that. Not different landscapes. Also you couldn't keep your char to play the game in a harder difficulty, which is changed in tl2.
adding the multiplayer too. Its always fun to get to play with other people.

sounds all good. however , it just sounds like they have added "more" but not neccesarily made the game better. From what you have mentioned it sounds like its only just been put up to scratch with modern Dungeon Crawler games like Diablo or the such like Titan Quest. I was really hoping to hear something revolutionary not just more of the same. like the first Torchlight was great, adding a really realistic enviroment with enemies poping out of cliff sides and ragdoll physics to exploded enemies. hell the pet system was a nice touch as well that really streamlined exploring. I suppose more of the same isnt a bad thing and improvments are of course improvments but I guess I was really hoping for something like a great change that would revolutionise dungeon crawlers and set Torchlight 2 as the bench mark for such games. Im thinking abit like Guild Wars 2, they did something really different and completely changed some fundamental bases of MMORPGS and it worked great. Im kinda hoping torchlight 2 might do the same.
Since i didn't bought diablo 3 cause in my eyes it was a lot different than the one i loved (diablo 2), i just hope torchlight to be a better diablo 2 in all ways. Also i love the variety of weapons you can use, like guns or pistols. Plus the addition of pets since tl1 was really nice. :D

iTorch, you're more than welcome to join our group chat and discuss it with us. I'm sure people will be happy to explain stuff in more detail :)

I'm here to gladly invite you to the group chat, too. There is a ton of things which makes TL2 highly superior to TL1. However, if you expect THE new ARPG with THE revolutionizing mechanics, you will be disappointed. It's an ARPG like we all know it, but refined to be the purest gem out there in the market. Just my opinion, of course.

Runic games is made from Blizzard north, the creators of diablo 1 and 2, the first torchlight was like the first diablo, 3 characters, and a huge dungeon. Torchlight 2 is taking diablo 2, removing one character, but making it 3D, and a whole lot better then diablo.

You have to play the beta to understand. I myself confess I found TL1 to be a bit of a grindfest, but TL2 beta is just phenomenal. Here is a list of things that weren't in TL1 that are in TL2:

Skills with visual enhancement (they look cooler at higher levels), and new passive additions as they level.

Character customization along with male and female variants for every class. Also gear is no longer the cookie cutter seperate for each class armor crap system the last game used. The system has been entirely overhauled so that almost any class can use any armor.

86% more gear and items (Every item is new, but almost double in sheer content than the first for the same price)

Random encounters (Seriously, there is a constant flow of unique little things varying from altars summoning mini survival rounds, phasebeasts, and a plethora of other little doobobs)

Unique Bossfights, just ask those who have played even D3. TL2 has some really cool, unique boss fights which are quite exceptional for the ARPG genre (particularly hack n slash)

To say that it "has just been brought on par with D2" would be rather foolish, as while D2 was in excellent game in its time, if it were released nowadays (even with updated graphics) it would be hailed as clunky and even grindy.

You can read an official review here: http://www.examiner.com/review/torchlight-ii-review-just-buy-it-already, the classes are very unique and really don't play like TL1 classes or D2 classes at all. It is an entirely new experience from TL1 and is executed to perfection.

I never actually compared it diablo 2, I compared it to modern dungeon crawlers such as diabo (refering to the newst one). I have been playing abit and it hasnt really shined in any particular area to me. in fact, one huge anoyance I have is the fact that the difficulty is a little inconsistant in multiplayer. If playing on veteran (which in all fairness feels like normal) single player you can walk through MOST fights no trouble, however playing veteran multiplayer the difficulty suddenly amps up significantly. so in multiplayer, normal is veteran, veteran is elite and elite...well, seems rather ridiculous to me. another quam I have with this is that enemies become stronger, but significnatly so. so in multiplayer if your playing front lines while you allies are nuking from behind you, you will take significant damage, more damage than your allies can equally dish out. so the enemies will do alot more damage and take alot less damage making playing melee a little unforgiving. hell last few matches of playing multiplayer on a reasonable difficulty (veteran) almost none of my allies bothered with melee attacks and spammed cannon attacks and AOE attacks (beserkers AOE ice thing), chugging down a mana potions in order to keep up the onslaught. hell it was far more effeciant then trying to go toe to toe . this is especially true with bosses. I will note that I am playing an Engineer with a healing drone and by now level 28 and have at least 130-150 defence in all element and physical defence. I dont consider myself a poor player and am infact playing on elite on single player, its just when it comes to multipayer it seems a little inproportional. your thoughts?

You should compare it to Diablo 2, because Diablo 3 is TRASH. As far as difficulty, melee stands pretty firm in Multiplayer, but when it comes to harder modes, you really have to think more about builds than just mindlessly running through. I'm sure there's builds out there that people have posted. A lot of players are pretty smart at their calculating, knowing what gear to find, etc etc. As I play an Outlander, I'm not 100% sure on how melee works, though I know my friend and I play and he's an engi, yet he NEVER dies, simply because he crits often around 1600 often, and has over 4k hp.
