This game is fun. I played this with 3 other people on a server, built a small village within a week. The most amount of time I've dedicated to any game. I like it because players can dedicate themselves to specific roles and level up skills related to those roles. For example, I was a dirt flinger. I terraformed the land and was also a lumberjack. So I worked on creating defenses and creating plots of land to build new structures. One person was a blacksmith and tanning expert, so he would make nails, weapons and leather pieces/armor for us. Another was an herbalist/farmer, for food and remedies. The last one was a hunter and forager. Just between the 4 of us, we made a sustainable community.

However, at the end of it all and with the bugs that are present, you leave yourself thinking, "Why am I wasting my time with this?" A week of my life wasted to have a bug completely roadblock progress and features that were not implemented yet. The only way we could get these objects is if we contacted the server admin and he spawned it for us.

It seems like the developers are more focused on the presentation of the game at this point than the actual functionality of it. It's almost as if they had their project lead hijack the functionality process and started prioritizing his "ideas" rather than creating a solid base to work from. They are also talking about an MMO version of it, but why? The game functions really sluggish already on a static map and serverside lag is very bad. As another user pointed out, people that dig below water level causes corruption in the server database, tree stumps and other objects that are laying around cause lag, etc. And what does a new player do on a large server where there are no resources for them to be productive? To me, it seems like it has a lot of potential, but the priorities are not straight for this game to be successful. Just seems like another one of those games that are selling an "idea" rather than an experience.

I would not recommend this game solely on that basis.

Loved this game as a kid playing it on LAN with my family and love this game now as an adult, playing it solo and online. The classics will never get old for me. The gameplay is pretty fair and it's easy to run on mobile devices, especially if you're on a business trip and want to kill time (or the Britons/Franks). It's nice that they updated this game to run on newer systems since my old disks required a patch to make it playable on newer versions of Windows.

I have been playing this series since the original source mod and I absolutely love it. I am half/half about this game though. I love the mechanics, I love the weapons, I love the game modes, but I absolutely HATE the maps.

What team you are on determines the amount of cover and firing positions you have against an enemy that is easy pickings. Often you are restricted to only one lane as an attacker. It's like trying to push down an alleyway to get to a door when everyone is already set up and hiding behind dumpsters at the end. The developers seem to be getting better at map design in the newer updates and in the beta, so hopefully these issues will be resolved.

One thing I love about this game is that sniper rifles are NOT abused like they are in other FPS games. More often than not, ARs/SMGs trump snipers in most aspects, because sniper rifles don't have the field of view while scoped in like they do in most games.

One thing I think needs to be nerfed, in my opinion, are the effectiveness of LMGs. The M249 is the primary example, because it is just absolutely ridiculous how much map control you have with it. An attacking team can't advance if an good player with a M249 is present. Especially on maps where only one lane of attack is available.

Competitive mode... I don't even really know why it's there? I mean, 5v5, but there are no penalties for leaving, nothing is really gained from it and it feels like I'm just playing the regular game. Often times, a round would end and I wouldn't even know why. Especially if I was still alive on my team and the other team had won.

Overall, I think there's a lot that needs to be polished in this game, but if you're looking for time to kill, I would recommend it.

After playing for over 800+ hours in this game, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a large scale combat simulator. The physics, penetration systems and weapon mechanics are a lot better than they were in ARMA II. However, with all of these things comes a new demand for processing power.

This game is VERY CPU intensive. I do not recommend playing this on AMD CPUs, mostly because it relies heavily on Intel's hyper-threading. I can play this pretty decently on my FX 4130, some of my friends play with an FX 8350, but there are a lot of performance bottlenecks. You get increased performance running on higher settings than running on lower settings. I'll explain why.

On lower settings, the game assumes your GPU is unable to handle the load. So I switches the dependency to render a lot of things on the CPU. By switching it to a higher setting, the engine balances the load off of your CPU to both the CPU and the GPU.

===============================================================

As far as gameplay, there are a lot of mods and scenarios, both outside of Workshop and in the Workshop. I spent hours playing around with these mods, Zeus and making little invade/defend scenarios. RHS, CUPS, MCC Alive, and ACE are the biggest ones if you are looking for the realism aspect. The editor is nice and easy to understand once you get the basics down, so you could create single player scenarios. I have not tried to mess with scripting or server-side scenarios. The community is somewhat decent sized and there's always something to play as far as multiplayer.

===============================================================

The downsides to this game can also have a -lack- of content. In comparison to ARMA II, there is not a lot of content as far as vehicles and weapons. The helicopters and marksman DLC is a nice addition to the game, but it still feels -empty-. I am hoping that in future DLCs, there will be newer weapons and vehicles. It feels like there was a lot more time focused on what the unit is wearing rather than what he's using to pump lead.

===============================================================

Wasteland was a lot more fun on ARMA II because everyone had a chance of getting good gear and vehicles, worked together to build bases and overall the team aspect was there. In ARMA III, not so much. It seems more like a really huge deathmatch map, little chance to get a vehicle outside of civilian cars, where everyone just runs to try to be the first one to camp the gun stores. There's really no team play in relation to doing missions except in rare occurences. Stratis is the lesser of two evils as far as the default maps are concerned. Altis is just way too huge, way too open and you end up traveling for hours to find somewhat decent gear in order to be disappointed by some guy who went to the vehicle store from all of his hard-earned cash from gun store camping to buy a tank or an attack chopper.

===============================================================

In Altis Life, the biggest game mode, it can be fun to an extent, but the hours of grinding to catch up with people already well off in terms of money who have been playing forever is nearly impossible. Ever since they implemented the gang system and made rebel gear the absolute end-game gear while civilians and police only get access to the garbage weapons, it makes the game a little unfair for those starting out. RDM is common and the servers are hit and miss on whether or not they are moderated. There is really no "RP" despite it being hailed as an RP game mode.

===============================================================

Invade & Annex (Spin off of Domination for ARMA II) is probably my favorite game mode. It requires team work and coordination to control AOs, some servers only allow gear depending on your role (I prefer playing a medic and playing support roles over assault/marksman), and not everyone just hops into a jet (Most servers require you be in TS to coordinate with surface units before bombing the ♥♥♥♥ danger close). Great game-mode if you are new and trying to learn the mechanics of the game.

===============================================================

King of the Hill is... okay. The factors that determine whether it's going to be fun, in my opinion, are:
A. It doesn't have vehicles outside of transports
B. Infantry-based
C. How many players are actually in the server
D. Does the server have an auto-balance

KOTH would be so much better if it were smaller scale, focused more on infantry combat and AO control, rather than which team is stacked the most against the others. By stacked, I mean:

BLUFOR: 5 Players
OPFOR: 28 Players
Independent: 16 Players

Once a team is stacked on the AO, there's really no chance to win. There's too much high ground and way too many places to camp an AO. It's even worse when offensive vehicles are involved, because these vehicles sit on the outskirts of combat, probably 1000+ meters away, with view distance turned up and thermals. It makes it really unfair for those people just starting off, even worse when it's an AA just camping the choppers coming out of a base.

===============================================================

Overall, I highly recommend this game to anyone looking for a good experience just playing around with scenarios in single player or team-based game modes in multiplayer. The only thing I wish this community would do is make more objective-based game modes, like capture the flag, team deathmatch, or something that really puts infantry-based combat as priority over most multiplayer game-modes where whoever has the best gear, vehicles and numbers stacked against everyone else wins. In short, quality over quantity.

CS:GO Review
Hated this game so much in the end that I permanently removed it from my account. I bought this game at release. It was fun, the community was helpful as far as giving tips on spray/recoil control, spots to hide, etc. It -was- a great addition to CS:S, even though there was a learning curve, because it introduced new game mechanics and made you a lot more visually aware of your surroundings due to the upgraded engine from previous source games.

Fast forward about a year and everything went to ♥♥♥♥. Matchmaking became a joke when people who thought their higher ranked accounts were too hard to play and bought the game when its on sale, thus to ♥♥♥♥ all over new players in Silver/Nova. People in higher ranks are boosted to those ranks by their friends who are actually at the level they are supposed to be at. Valve will do nothing about this, because smurf accounts are a cash cow, which is why you see this game on sale more frequently than their legacy titles.

I don't even want to get started on hacking. Overwatch is only effective to a point. Everyone hails Overwatch as the savior of CS:GO, when it's made little impact, especially considering that hackers can just buy the game again on another account, just like smurfs. You can link the VAC ban statistics all you want, but CSGO is NOT the only game that uses VAC and using the whole number of VAC bans as justification that hacking isn't rampant in this game would be a half-truth. Currently there is no solution for this though, as anyone could do this with any game (Get banned and rebuy on another account). My gripe is that Valve seems to invite this kind of behavior, because it generates money.

Furthermore, the community is absolutely toxic. Want to play with mature players? That's too bad. You're either going to get kicked for not performing well as soon as you get on your computer after work, play with derankers or overall play with really angsty teenagers and kids. Even the majority of so called "adults" in this game act like children. I'd equate CSGO to the community of Xbox Live in most respects. If you don't believe me, just go and look at some of the reviews for this game. No substance in their reviews, terrible grammar and 90% of the time it's just kids projecting new memes they picked up and regurgitate everywhere they go.

Many claim "You just can't take the heat." or "CSGO just isn't your game." I took the heat, fought to get my rank and it shows for nothing because of the conditions of this game. My rank meant nothing in the long term, because the players and teams that actually played good were on smurf accounts in the lower ranks, while those who really didn't deserve to be in my rank range flooded it.

Overall, I would not recommend this game if you want to keep your sanity. There are so many better FPS games out there. The competitive is a joke. Don't waste your time and money on this pile of crap.

This is pretty fun. It reminds me of a Sim City/Age of Empires twist, and it goes further than that. You have to maintain a society strategically, taking into consideration environmental factors and supply/demand.

The only thing I wish the developers would do is have an option for increased map sizes and different pallets. Tropical Islands/Jungle would be interesting.

I'd highly recommend.
