This game is worth it's existence for the music alone, and the game is pretty good too. Simple, stylish and challenging there is practically nothing to complain about.

This game has a bleak and depressing tone and that could be impressive if it was also technically well presented. As it is there is no options menu, pressing escape simply shuts down the game entirely. This is frustrating since the narative is slowly paced and there is a complete lack of a progression save system. However that can be forgiven in a game that takes 30 minutes to an hour to complete. The mouse sensitivity was a bit high so I tried for a menu and accidently quit. My dog started barking so I hit escape to pause and it quit. In a game entirely about narative, losing your place can pull you out of the story completely, a simple "Do you want to quit" menu would have sufficed.

My biggest complaint is that the narrative flow is abhorrent. Your character is simply too lazy to open many pieces of furniture for clues until he randomly decides that he should. There was a chest with a keyhole so I went in search of a keyring and I found it, only to discover that I didn't WANT to pick it up and that "Looking at the chest just made me feel tired." The scenery changes slightly as you progress but there is no indication of what changed and what you're willing to do so that it is simply frustrating to continue. There is no feeling of agency and the flow could have been fixed with dialogue to the effect of "I should go look at that chest now" or "I think I heard something over there." As it is you are essentially clicking random stuff, often the same things over and over, until progress is achieved. If you don't do this you could fail to progress for a VERY long time.

The story, which I understand is the crux of the entire entity, is competent. Though you would do well to avoid it if you prefer to maintain faith in humanity. Existential fiction can be quite powerful and thought-provoking if wielded effectively but this is less intriguing and more depressing and neurotic. Essentially it's a story of a man and his wife falling out and the wife murdering the man and shoving him in a cupboard. Never a scenario I wish to experience in real life and I can't imagine wanting to experience in a video game Also I have to deduct points for the character having amnesia and the character making a joke about skeletons being in the closet and then there is literally a skeleton in the closet

Overall the game needed a few extra layers of polish, which from a stable of 40 developers, no budget expectations or hard release date shouldn't have been a problem. This was obviously a labour of love and should never have been released in anything less than an absolutely finished state. In stark contrast to this game is Miasmata which was made by 2 people and contained not only an intriguing existential story but also intuitive and completely unique controls and gameplay mechanics.

There is something to be said for this as a "games are art" piece but you have to remember that mechanics and narative flow are fundament to the definition of a "game" and without properly good game design an artistic game can be little less than a very clunky movie or a book with improperly numbered pages. I wouldn't call this game "Bad" per se but not of particular merit. It at least had the intelligence to not charge money or hang around for twelve hours like a game by David Cage would.

You are terminally ill trapped in a jungle with an invulnerable predator. Your wit and your resourcefulness are your only defense.
