How NOT To Design a PNC

As a lover of point and click adventures, I decided you pick this one up and give it a shot. There are some elements that must be available when playing this sort of genre, this game is severely lacking in so many departments. The storyline seems written well enough and the graphics are good enough for a PNC game, the music seems fairly ok too.
The game has no animations whatsoever, no interactivity beween the characters and what is occuring on the screen, for example at the start of the game when you are attempting to pick up the hammer. This is a terrible design flaw that simply does not work with point and click adventures. The game has no voices, normally if everything else is done well this would not matter, but for a game in this state it certainly has a negative impact on the rest of the game. The game has no options for the resolution, again I can often accept this and would still play the game, however the game is designed in a way that the user interface is far too large and it looks like it was designed by a 5 year old child who has learning difficulties. This was when I had seen enough, 7 minutes in and already I had been put off by the complete lack of effort that has been put in to this title, hopefully the developer will learn from this shoddy game and improve in the future. The more point and click adventures on Steam the better I say.

PNC Style Story

As a massive lover of point and click adventures, I am kind of undecided on this one. The voice acting and sound effects are just excellent, the storyline so far (12 hours in at the time of writing) has been very interesting and quite diverse. I am almost to the end of book 2 out of 3 and I am guessing must have around 6+ hours remaining at this point. I have not read the books by Ken Follet and nor would I, reading is not for me. I can not compare the game to the books, but I will do my best now to point out what I have enjoyed from this title and what the title has been missing IMO.

The Good

Like I already mentioned the sound effects, music and voice acting are just brilliant and I can't imagine them being any better. The graphics whilst they are not amazing, are certainly good enough for a point and click adventure title. The storyline so far is very interesting and story well written. This is of a point and click style, but very story driven. The game offers some choices at times which add to the story. The game is long and I expect close to 20 hours, maybe a little less, this is great for a game of this genre.

The Bad

Now as a long time point and click gamer there are many things that a PNC must have for me so I can enjoy it like it should be played. Now this game like I said is a point and click, but there is more storytelling and cutscenes than actual adventuring. You are very limited in each scene on what you can do and you have no inventory as such, this is a big negative for me for this genre. Now whilst I do understand that the game is designed like this because of the chapters running in order from parts in the books, this really damages the enjoyment for me. For a point and click adventure to be a huge hit it must have hard puzzles which this game certainly does not, infact this game almost holds your hand throughout and it is far too easy. The lack of the inventory and ability to use items together is really badly designed for me and takes away a big chunk of enjoyment from the title. Being limited within each chapter to pretty much everything and the game almost putting the answers in front of you is a terrible design choice, and for me the price on Steam is far too high, now I never bought the game from Steam and it cost me £1.40 only.

Although I have not paid the Steam price for this title, I can't recommend paying the Steam price for this game because I just don't feel the price is justified whatsoever. However, if you can get the game cheaper, it is certainly worth buying for a playthrough. I will update my review once I have completed the full game but the score I give below is from my experience with the game upto this point.

UPDATE - So now I have completed the game which took me 16 hours, this is very long for a point and click style game and like I said with all of my points within this review, there are alot of things that I did not quite like with this game. The final book chapters I got a little more enjoyment out of and the storyline was much more interesting for me, I have changed my review to a positive... BUT only because of the price I paid, nothing more. If I would have paid Steams price this game would have received a 3 or 4 out of 10. With that being said, there are not many games that can hold my interest from start to finish for a full playthrough within 4 days.

Horrendous Point and Click Adventure

The grammar in this game is pretty poor and the amount of errors is a bit of a joke, if you are going to release a game you need to at least check stuff like this first. The movement with the cursor keys does not suit this genre and the lack of options and choices are clear to see. This is a free game so hats off to the developer for knowing the game's value, but if you are serious about becoming a developer who makes a profit, you really need to learn the basics and put them into action. I love point and click style games and this is kind of like that, I always aim to play point and click games through, but with the text errors I just can't take the game serious.

Terrible Point and Click

As a big lover of point and click style games, and an owner of over 90% of them on Steam, I have to say that this is just plain terrible. The thing that stood out from the outset was the appaling voice acting, this is extremely important when you create these type of games. Ontop of this the animations are slow and just very badly done, the speech to mouth movement is not existent and the game is just lacking in so many places that I can't even play this any longer. I certainly won't be installing this again and will avoid this developer in the future.

Worst Driving Experience on Steam

Glacier 3 is probably the worst vehicle combat type game ever released on any platform, for starters the game has no story mode whatsoever, even though it offers "story mode", this offers a number of tracks for you to play on which come with no narrative at all. Once you get into actual gameplay, Glacier 3 really shows it's colours. The pathetic physics and controls make the game almost impossible to play and slightly turning your vehicle will cause it to spin around and out of control. But this is not the end, the terrible physics are made worse with the inclusion of ingame bounce physics when you collide with everything in sight. The truth of the matters is, you have about as much control over the vehicles as you would a motorised bar of soap. This isn't helped with the ingame AI which is just horrendous and the computer controlled vehicles which drive straight into mines, other obstacles or even off the edge of the cliffs or off the map full stop. Ingame FOV is awful too and this is certainly the worst driving game ever released on any platform in history and the graphics are just terrible ontop of all that.

Completely terrible

If you are looking for a game with terrible graphics, awful sound effects, no storyline and poor controls to name just a few of the issues, maybe this mess is for you. On a serious note, this is easily one of the worst games on Steam and to put a valuation on what this would cost, I would put this at the 1 pence price point.

Not for me, repetative and boring

This is really not for me, graphics are quite good but the gameplay really bores me. Same thing over and over and I have hardly spent much time on it. Simply not a game I can enjoy. For the price I paid for keysite it cost £4.50 at the time, not bad really.

Completely awful

When I saw The Great Escape coming to Steam it brought back memories for me from when I was younger, the time I spent on this game and I loved it. This version is just copied over and is untouched, if you want to play the great escape then play the original version. This is complete junk and these "developers" don't have a clue how to develop.

Love Monkey Island..But

As a massive point and click fan I am a little dissapointed that this release is only the Scumm version moved over to Steam, I expected some proper settings to change resolution and such for a start. I have refunded this and will pick it up at a cheaper price when cheaper from my usual website. If you are going to release old games, at least make some effort.

Really fun and varied game

I got this as part of my monthly humble bundle and I have to say so far I am loving it. The game offers so much fun that it is hard not to like it. I am only 2 hours into this title and feel like I have not even began to see how much this game can offer. Very fun killing zombies and the game runs flawlessley maxed out at 1440p 165hertz on max settings. Will update my review once I have played through it but so far I love it.

Update - Played through the single player game now and completed it, very fun game and quite a good story, maybe a little short if you had paid the full price from steam (Which I didn't), but very very fun and varied game. Not tried multiplayer, that does not interest me.
