Fast Paced Action Shooter

Picked this up as part of the Humble Bundle monthly and thought I would give it a quick try. This is an instant hit for me and a game I will spend a fair amount of time playing. Quick paced action which offers a very interesting gameplay mechanic and design, I will give this game a proper review after a good few hours but straight away I can see this is an instant hit and one that should be in everyone's collection.

My Score - 7/10

This is how not to re-release a classic

Early Thoughts

I have been playing point and click adventure games for over 20 years and played Simon the sorcerer on the Amiga years back along with other classics such as Monkey Island. I also played pnc games older than this and for years I have been hoping that Simon the Sorcerer would come to Steam.

So now it's here, and this is why I would avoid this game until it's fixed, and if that time never comes just play the original Scum version which doesn't suffer from the following horrific issues.

This game is NOT a remaster by any means, infact it looks much worse. The developers have decided to use a horrific overlay which believe it or not is making the "pixel" version from years back look a hell of alot better. This is the worst "Remastered" game ever released and that is no exagerration.

The developer thought it would be good idea to bring in Hotspots to the new version, luckily these can be switched off if you choose to play the older version in the options. The hotspots completely ruin the game, just as they do on all other point and click style games. The developer doesn't seem to understand that what people want from pnc games if for them to be hard, make you think and let people hunt for items instead of blinding us with the positioning of them. This was the first really poor point for me, I could live with a terrible remaster because I can play the original version which doesn't include hotspots.

On a more positive note, the developer has fixed some of the issues that I and many other had and in quick fashion, there was quick replies in the discussions and some issues such as not being able to use the original cursor in classic mode, but being forced to use childish icons is now fixed. Also there was issues for many with the mouse shooting across the screen on it's own, this has also been fixed.

So to conclude, if you want to play a "remastered version" DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. It is not remastered, it is ruined. If you want to play the original version, download and play with Scumm or pick this up when it's cheap because the original classic version is fine.

My Score - 5/10. I love simon the sorcerer, but whilst this is tagged as a 25th Anniversary Edition and a remasted, I can't recommend this.

Short but solid old-style point and click

Pretty decent pnc game for the price, I paid 0.18 pence from Keysite and for that it's worth it. I have now completed this game and I quite enjoyed it.

How NOT to design a point and click adventure

As a lover of point and click adventures, this one just makes me realise how good many of the others are going off how bad this is. I could only manage 7 minutes of this, the voice acting is just terrible. The voices don't even match up with the text on the screen and many words are missed out during the speaking. The drawings are very badly done in places, such as the main character. The user interface is awful and general user experience extremely poor. Now this is a free game so credit to the developers not asking for money for this, so the game is priced correctly for how much it is worth. However the development team are clearly new to this and I am sure will learn from this effort, as a PNC player who has been playing point and click adventures since the Amiga days with Monkey Island and Beneath a Steel Sky to name a few this would be very low on my list in comparison.
This game includes so many fundamental mistakes, I would tell the development team to take a look at some of the good PNC games and take some notes because this is a pretty big mess.

Quite a pointless device

Bought this during the sale for £12+ postage, I would say it was worth that cost. However it certainly isn't worth the price that Steam sell it at, the fact to use this you have to still run your PC at the same time completely defeats the purpose of using this device for me, I did know about that before purchasing and my review is not based on that. Using this wirelessly is certainly not always lag free, using this with Ethernet is an improvement. This would get a positive review if you didn't have to run whatever game you are playing on your PC at the same time which means you can't use the PC. I bought this so my son could play games in his room from our steam account, with me always doing work on the PC that is not possible.
The device is very poorly designed, no lights to show power I found ridiculous. I can see how Valve is able to sell on sales for so cheaply, the device is very poorly made and when you open it up you can see how cheap and nasty the components used are, you would need to know what you are looking at though which I do.
So would I reccommend this to a friend, most definately not for the price stated on Steam outside of sales.

My Score - 5/10.

If you can see past the terrible voice acting, this may be for you

As a lover of point and click adventures and someone who owns every single pnc on Steam, I have to say that trying this was a complete waste of time and this is possibly the worst PNC on Steam. The voice acting is terrible, the animations are terrible and the game is pretty terrible. I could only manage 11 minutes of this junk, the only thing this has going for it is that it is free, for that alone this deserves a mention, but if you are someone who loves playing point and click adventures, avoid this mess like the plague.

My Score - 1/10. - Deserves 1 mark for being free.

A glimpse of what the developers can do, albeit too short and simple

12 Minutes to complete, very simple and almost impossible to die. Certainly not worth a positive, not even for free. Controls are fine but the overall quality of the game build is pretty bad.

Terrible animations and character interactions

As a lover of point and click adventures I have to say that this one is really badly put together, from the almost static positioning when the characters walk, to the terrible lip syncing throughout. Shoddy at times but at the same time the storyline is interesting, normally I will play all point and click games to the end, but I just can't with this one because of the amount of things that are putting me off. This isn't the worst pnc I have played, not by far, but it isn't good enough for a positive review either imo.

A solid release which is completly problem free, unless you run a commodore 64 level pc ofcourse

Pre-ordered this a few months back for my son, whilst he was playing through the alphas/betas. My son has just played this for almost an hour and the game runs flawlessley as expected, maxed out for him at 1440p the game runs great and plays great. Alot of people are complaining on their reviews, but what do you expect when you are trying to play gamess with a commodore 64 level pc, tramps will always be tramps.
Get yourself a good pc and this will run great just like it should, the alpha and beta versions has some bugs, but from the hour he played on this it was flawless, will update after he has played 20+ hours.

My Score - 8.5/10

All roads lead to the same ending, this is NOT a game

The choices you make on this interactive movie make zero difference to how the story goes, complete garbage. I have watched youtube videos of this "game" with how it plays out, I decided to try playing it out a different way and the story forces you to play through the story the only 1 way it wants no matter what choices you pick. Refunded.
And before any more kids cry "you have only played 20 minutes how woud you know".... Firstly it isn't a game you fooking idiots, I have watched 4 hours of videos to see how this junk plays out. I bought it for 1 reason and 1 reason only, I wanted to try the beginning of this junk the only way I had not seen, and that was to run away. This is an example of how the choices in this game make no difference. Firstly, you can choose to get in the car and drive him away, or you can run and then stop and get in the car and drive him away, or you can run out of the car park and try to run again, and then forced to get into another car and taken to the exact same place as the first 2 choices. The choices make no difference, the story plays out 1 way and 1 way only, complete junk.

My Score - 0/10 - Do not fall for this awful effort.
