Great game. you can see that the creators of the game wanted to do something special.

The graphics, spell effects and music are beautiful. I especially like the lighting effects they added.

The stories vary a lot in term of quality, some are super predictable, but no story was very bad.
The same thing goes for characters usefulness in combat, some are very OP and some are almost useless. But you can play the game with any party without too much problem.

Characters have a path ability that lets you do stuff outside combat, but the developers basically just made 4 abilities with a variation for 2 characters. For example, Tressa can buy items from people, Therion can steal items from people, but if he fails you lose reputation. Abilities that can lower your reputation can be abused by scum saving,

The game is not difficult at all, except for 1 fight, which is optional but...

Combat is nothing special, enemies have weaknesses to certain weapons and elements, you hit them enough times with that weakness and they break, stunning them for the end of the round you are in and the next round, combined with the fact that the game tells you who goes next round it can easily be abused to give you 2 rounds breaks.

I will recommend this for fans of Recore of Lodoss War, but even then it is barely recommendable.

I love Record of Lodoss War, I remember when my friend lent me the VHS tapes, I watched it in 1 sitting. I was amazed by the story. I must have watched it again 10 times in the following year.

No after the end things to do like in many similar games, no reason to come back after you finish the game or to restart a new game
The combat is ordinary, just 1 attack with your melee weapon, no charge/power attack, yes you can hit at angles but that does the same damage as a standard attack
No blocking/parry
You can attack through floors and doors
Monsters can walk through locked doors
You have a lot of weapons, but most of them are useless
No armor or any other gear
Boss gauntlets at the end
Items are useless, I managed to finish the game without using any potions, took 4 tries for the last boss
Items are even more useless when you get the mana draining sword and life draining bow
HP and mana regen makes items useless
You can only dodge backward
Bosses are easy when you spam bow and light magic, it's even easier to do since most bosses will allow you to drain mana, it's even worst when you get the bow that auto track your target

I managed to die 3 different ways in the first room, what other game lets me do that?

Good but not that good. Barely 6/10 to me. I would wait for a sale to get it.

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD

The graphics are great

The music is ordinary and very repetitive, after a few runs I just turned it off completely

The fighting system is interesting but once you understand how it works (just do the tutorial and you should be good) it gets very very easy. Delay enemies enough to make them lose their turn, hit the remaining ones first to they don't do any heavy damage.

You have an enemy system like in Shadow of Mordor where some enemies, if they kill you or survive a run, get bonuses. Honestly I really don't care about such a system is a game that is so limited. Ok yes that boss gets damage resistance vs heavy hits, but the heavy hit, even with the lowered damage, still does much more damage than the other attacks, once the boss is broken it doesn't change anything.

Character progression is ok, but you never make any skill or card choice, so you can't attempt to build a character, you can somewhat do it with gear but not really at the same time.

You can have alternative attributes for each character, their colour changes with the variation you choose to go with, but each character have a great option, an option where you get bonus to relationship and a less than great option. Guess what option you will select once you have unlocked all the characters?

The character friendship is nice, you get bonuses, special combo skills and sometimes babies if you have the right 2 characters.

The story is where I have my biggest problem, the way the game starts it makes you think the brother and sister are important, but they are not. First run Davion is the "bad" guy, second run Wynn in the "bad guy", third run Nodo is the "bad guy", I can only guess who the "bad guys" for the next 10 runs would be. Someone on the forum mentioned that after 13 victories you never get to fight Mother, they are probably saving her for an expansion or something like that.

I played for about 5 hours, computer needs to be rebooted after about 1 hour of playing this game because I get audio crackling, my mouse keeps jumping around, video starts stuttering and now I get a black screen when booting the game.

Just restarting the games does not resolve the problems. All my drivers are up to date, no other games or software causes me any of those problems. I checked on the internet and found people had those problems with no real solutions.

It's too bad because even though the game feels dated, I was still enjoying it.

At least I didn't had to pay to find out about those problems.

Solid base for a game, here are a few thoughts.

-Camera needs to be fixed, often it would zoom in really close to my characters
-A mini map
-Possibility to walk using keyboard
-Some loot can be picked with F some not, how about everything can be looted with F?
-When opening chests the loot is dropped on the ground like for an ARPG, I find that annoying
-Gear, yeah a lot of it but more often then not it is not better than what the characters have already on
-Walking range circle for combat
-Line of sight, while a good idea, really needs to be fixed, when you fight a 10 foot tall skeleton having someone in front should not prevent attacks
-Hover over tool tips for the UI
-Some way to heal statuses without having to camp
-Positioning, that is a big no the way it is currently implented. Enemies ALWAYS run around to good positions while I have 3 characters clumped that get decimated by AOE's, the fight should start with everyone locked to their position, no free running actions for the enemies.
-Some disavantage to using camping, right now I am using it after every fight, unless I get lucky and can kill everything without receiving too much damage. Maybe lower the max supplies you can carry or have the possibility for a random encounter/event.
-Potions, you can drink all your potions in 1 turn, maybe make them better and limit to 1 drink per turn or make them really good but requiring 1 action.

This is not an angry review about an upcoming game that will be released on another platfore, this is about Borderland Game of the year enhanced.

I have not played this game before so I do not have the nostalgia bonus that many players will have.

Graphically the game looks nice but that's about it.

There are so many problems, some quest markers are there but the NPC that should be there is not, you will constantly get stuck on things that should be walked over like a plank of plywood or the ground, while you are stuck you will not be able to move for a few moments, often leading to an unfair death, driving is also pointless since the vehicles will get stuck on everything, they can be flipped with absolutely no effort, often you want to drive somewhere, but the only path is blocked by objects placed there just to block the path or there is a doorway that is large enough but the vehicle will get stuck on nothing. Some settings are reseted every time you restart the game, there is a launcher where you set the settings but some are not applied to the game.

It really sucks because I am enjoying the story but those points are really making playing hard.

I found this game to be disappointing.

Story is delivered via a journal that I barely read, there is no other characters that you see, music is ordinary, gameplay have nothing new when compared to titles on the SNES, controls are a clunky, you can boost to fly for a very limited amount of time, often you would just need half a second of boost to be able to get to a second platform but instead you have to wait for it to recharge, most boss fights can be done by getting the right angle with your gun and just shooting while moving back and forward, there is customization, but once you selected your loadout you are stuck with it.

The graphics are nice.

Get this game if you see it at a discount or full price if you know whoever made it.

Get it only if highly discounted and you are bored on a rainy day because you will finish it in 1 afternoon.
