NO! Don't listen to the negative reviews! This dev team has had more reliably consistent weekly updates than nearly any other indie team. This is their current flagship title; no way they would abandon it so quickly.
This game mixes elements from many other games in such a good way that no other game currently delivers.
If this looks like the kind of game you'd enjoy, you probably will.

Okay, it's decent. Solid, actually. A simple, pretty, and cheap way to scratch that crafting fix you've had without spending big money. No clue if this game has any future, but I'll happily continue to play this every now and then to kill some time.

Building mechanics alone- I'll recommend this game. You can always rely on the snaps to work, you just have to find them. The mechanics JUST WORK and are a blast to play with. Not to mention terraforming. You can build some dang cool stuff in this game. Just set an alarm because TIME WILL ESCAPE YOU!

Where's the lasso effect in psychokinesis???? Why is no one talking about this?? Swinging things around, letting go, and watching them fly in whatever direction you release them at IS GONE! It's gone from psychokinesis AND the saucer's Abduct-O beam!!! This was easily the most satisfying feature of the original and it's GONE!!!!! WTF!?! Why is NO ONE TALKING ABOUT THIS?????

TBH, game looks great and is MOSTLY completely faithful to the original, in addition to a couple more cool features. But the lack of the lasso effect RUINS the game for me. I've been waiting for this remake for so long, and it breaks my heart to leave a negative review, but I can't stand for this. Game lacks the best part of the original. So disappointing.

Man, this game has a ton of "BUGS"! Joining my friend's games is difficult to get working as their are no game-invites yet and the server browser doesn't work very well since I have to spam the refresh button a lot. But it's pretty ok when you get it working. Game looks nice and the bugs are terrifying. But the hot-bar doesn't work half the time in multiplayer and I crash a lot. Crafting bases is super wonky; Placing walls and roofs is a nightmare, the placement tool is overly-sensitive and it takes a while to place things where you want them. But hey, IT"S DAY ONE in EARLY ACCESS!! It's fun, it really is. A lot to do; A lot to see. You'll need an Xbox Live account, which is no big deal. Not sure why people complain about that, IT"S AN XBOX GAME. I'm thankful Microsoft put it on Steam.

I've never looked into this game, however, I know it has a massive following with tons of lore. I decided to pick it up during the Summer Sale for what I thought was a steal for such a legendary game. Also I wanted something scary to play on a late night; And my disappointment was immeasurable.

I'll start with what I came across first which really turned me off: There are ZERO options for configuration and optimization; Which means, I was stuck with default 720 resolution which didn't even fill my display panel. Even after tweaking in my GPU software, I was stuck with hideous black boarders on fullscreen and forced windowed.
No options means no volume mixer to adjust the abysmal, screeching sounds of this game; Easily fixed by the windows volume mixer but still annoying.
No pause: Escape simply exits the game. And whether that's a consciously implemented gameplay mechanic or not, that's just trash game design.

Now regarding the actual gameplay: You control the security console in a children's entertainment restaurant who allocated all their funding into sentient, murderous animatronics instead of doors that can stay closed to protect their staff. Seriously, your doors and lights are battery powered and drain considerably quick. Yeah, yeah, I get it; it's implemented for tension and gameplay. It's just really dumb, but whatever.
You control a pseudo-3D security console where you monitor the activities of the animatronics; so basically your job is pointless, unless you're their to control break-ins. But shouldn't their murder-robots take care of that? Whatever. You monitor the animatronics and try to anticipate their movements so you can close the doors before they get you. That's it. If you're caught, you're given an attempted jumpscare by the creatures appearing in front of your face accompanied by a loud noise.
This game is simply dumb and shouldn't be scary to anyone over the age of 13. Jump-scares didn't work on me but I can see how they would entice some cheap scares, which I guess is the whole point.
Crap mechanics, Crap game-play, Crap game.
Not sure how this game achieved the stature it has. I just don't get it.

Ok, yeah, we ALL know this game is garbage BUT there is a slight redeemable factor in it: The Co-Op. If you can find 1 or 2 friends to go in on this trash-pile with you, you can find some entertainment in it; if not for the bit of challenge this game actually holds, then for the sheer fun of ripping this game apart with your buddies. There is SO much to criticize that it becomes a game in itself. But that's it.

Have friends who will play with you, and GET IT ON SALE. Never EVER pay full price for this clunker of a game.

Nostalgia! This game inhabits my earliest memories of childhood and video games. The Edios splash-screen, the opening fmv sequence, the mansion tutorial, the classic soundtrack; ALL HEARTWARMING NOSTALGIA.

Ok, getting passed the nostalgia; If you've never played the original TR games, you must be prepared suspend your modern perceptions of graphics and game-play, and approach with an open mind. For this game is truly the first of it's kind and revolutionary, but blatantly shows it's age regarding mechanics and controls. If you can get passed that, this game offers you a fantastic story of adventure, thrilling combat, and mind bending puzzles. If you can learn how to map controls for a gamepad, I recommend it.

For veterans of this game (particularly on PS1), you already know what's up! All I can suggest to you is using DOSBox to upscale resolution and add texture filtering for the best TR1 experience of your life. Also recommend mapping an xbox controller to mimic the classic PS1 scheme, it works rather well.

This game is usually on sale for cheap, so you really can't go wrong if you're interested. For me, I consider it one of the best games of all time.

Didn't expect to have so much fun in this game. Actually quite therapeutic and gives you a sense of adventure. Maps aren't to scale, of-course, but still massive and well built. If your curious enough to look at reviews, than I'd say buy it. It's everything you'd want from a game like this.
