Apparently it's a really good platformer according to a lot of people.
I just don't think so. Played light and dark world finishing Salt Factory, and just wasn't having fun.
Not because of the difficulty; I perfected HM1, HM2, done LASO runs on Halos, and am in the process of iron manning every single Celeste chapter; and I'm almost done. I KNOW difficulty.
But I also know frustration. This game is just frustrating. I had fun playing all those difficult games, but I did not have fun playing this one.
Meatboy is a nightmare to control. He slips and slides all over the place. And the worst part is that most of this game doesn't revolve around long sections of going really fast; it's usually slow and precise. It feels like they made a game around a character that it doesn't work for.
Other characters don't resolve the issue (as far as I got). They're either clones of Meatboy with slight changes, or completely awful to control (worse than Meatboy) like Naira or whatever the fish's name is.
Environmental danger hitboxes like saws and salt have hitboxes that seem to extend outside what the actual geometry looks like, resulting in deaths that feel like they aren't my fault but the game's.

Don't really have much to say unlike my other reviews. Game isn't fun.

That makes more sense, thanks for clarifying! I think that's fair to feel like the movement doesn't fit well with the level design. Maybe that's why they moved toward a procedural nonstop runner in the newer game, super meat boy forever!

@Gordon
I never argued that Meat Boy being super slippery wasn't the intended physics. I recognize that you can become very good at it as well, and there are tons of really skillful Meat Boy players. However, Meat Boy's levels are often designed to be really precise and slow paced. Which makes it annoying that I'm using what I consider to be the wrong tool for the job.
Mario isn't poorly designed because the levels are designed around Mario's movement. It doesn't feel like it's the same for Super Meat Boy; almost everything feels like it's designed around a character like "The Kid" from IWBTG, and then Meat Boy was put in after. But I'm sure this is intentional, but I just don't like the end product.
I'm not trying to say that SMB is an objectively bad game, but this was my experience with it. It wasn't fun and was solely frustrating. It's subjectively bad, and I'm not a fan.

"He slips and slides all over the place" is the intended physics. He's made of meat bruh. You just need to learn how to control it. You know who else is all slippy slidey and whose movement is extremely different from celeste ? Mario. If you said Mario's bad because it doesn't have stiff movement like other platformers you've played people would probably think that's pretty silly.

Nice take! Still love the game, but I respect your opinion.
