Bro have you ever played Ultima? Have you ever wanted it to be 1985? I wasn't even alive in 1985 and honestly am glad it's not 1985 anymore because Reagan is dead now and there was a lot of misogyny back in those days and the hair styles were bad but this game is pretty much 1985 all over again in the best way possible dude even programmed this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on an APPLE II. That's the kind of dedication and absurd commitment to historical fidelity that I can get behind so you should buy this game because it is pretty much like those old Ultima games but made to not be quite as embarrassing because we've moved on as a society in the past 40 years which this game mostly gets. And don't be put off by my time played I've mostly played offline while working undercover for the San Francisco PD busting the Russian Mafia while they were smuggling in illegal reefers which I then sold to the devs on the DL via the dark web which is how I got this game for free.

I dunno man U.S. Grant Recommended this game to me bc I wanted to destroy slavers and refight the battle of the Wilderness which not enough people are getting into always going on about Gettysburg and Antietam but my dude Grant was out there slaying haters in the forest like it was going out of style and really before I say more I gotta say I dunno that I can recommend this game because it's frame rate is garbage and it really has a lot of flaws that you can read about in other reviews because this review is about killing white people and when it comes to killing white people this game lets you do that in spades there is another game about the civil war called war of rights and my main question is right to what my dude this game doesn't concern itself with those rights its main right is the right to have lousy AI and this AI is pretty lousy and the framerate is crap and the bugs are there but if you like total war and you like the civil war and you like run on sentences then you will like this review.

Have you ever been so annoyed by Italians and their laid back work ethic and late, massive dinners that you felt like invading their country? Then this game is for you.

Full disclosure: I got this game for free bc I sell the devs edibles on the dark web (♥♥♥♥'s still illegal in their state idk)

I noticed a lot of the negative reviews for Second Front don't really understand what the heck it is. It's essentially an unofficial adaptation of ASL for PC. For the uninitiated, ASL stands for Advanced Squad Leader, a super hardcore boardgame from the 1970s for people who would rather sit in their basement playing pretend than join the Army [edit: and people who did join the Army but now want to play pretend in their nerd friends' basements].

ASL was trying to be a _simulation_ via boardgame, and for the period in which it was designed, it worked pretty well. Now, in my opinion, there are better tactical tabletop "simulations" on the market, but one way or another they all owe a lot to ASL. PC games do not, and follow a different design philosophy. Hence why this game can seem kind of... off.

There's a lot of fussing about the RNG in the game, and "strange" results for firing at units, including the successfully attacked unit's stats upgrading, or spawning a Hero unit in the hex. "What the heck?" y'all computer nerds ask, "how tf does Nazis getting shot make them tougher?" Well, it's intention that strange, random ♥♥♥♥ happens. It's supposed to happen that way. Because real life is unpredictable, and combat at this scale is mostly chaos and confusion and noise. It isn't a chessboard. Or, so I've heard.

Figure this: that Nazi squad was led by an incompetent baffoon, and the fire that unit took killed him. Guess what? His second in command is actually a pretty skilled leader, and the men do much better under him than their former leader. These are intentional abstractions to develop emergent narrative and events that reflect life (or, at least, a classic war movie's depiction of real life). Could you do it a better way via PC game simulation? Of course you could. And various devs have done it, to varying degrees. But Second Front isn't supposed to be a computer simulation, it's supposed to be an adapatation of a _tabletop_ simulation, get it?

If the abstractions aren't to your taste that's fine. I personally get irritated by the game's depiction of command and its paying zero heed to basic military organization and hierarchy, but who cares. It's a game. It's pretty good.

Also it isn't puzzle-y; I don't get that complaint at all. The game is wayyyyy too random to be a puzzle. WTf r u talking about.

Giving a positive review bc there are a ton of negative ones from folks who have played the game as much as I have, which is to say not long enough at all to have developed an actual opinion on it, before getting a refund. I got mine only bc I got laid off and really should budget better seriously I have no self control thank god for Steam's crazy lenient refund policy do y'all have any idea how many games I've refunded at this point it's nuts I bought and refunded Rome II Total War like three times already.

Really tho Imperiums seems like a very dense game. There appears to be a lot here. I particularly like the look of the very in-depth diplomacy/trading system. I really don't think it has any actual competition in terms of super heavy turn-based game set in ancient Greece, which is first off a shame bc there should be more games like this, and secondly pretty cool I'm def gonna buy this again once I've get that big boy income and stop suckling off the nanny state.

EDIT: It doesn't seem to say I got a refund but I def got a refund
