This is a hard one to review. On one hand, this is probably the very best Serious Sam has ever been from a gameplay perspective. On the other hand, it is the absolute worst its ever been from a performance perspective. The performance does not even seem to use all of GPU processing available and is extremely CPU based. I respect the commitment to creating an entirely new from scratch engine instead of just using Unreal like everyone else, but it seems they bit off more than they can chew.

If you're struggling with performance, I made a guide "how to fix stuttering" with some options that may help, but there are no guarantees. If you do end up playing the game, I would highly recommend also playing New Game +. The campaign is only around 7 hours, but the new game plus essentially remakes the entire campaign with all new enemy spawns where Sam starts off with all weapons and the early and mid levels have massive enemy counts that are not found in the first playthrough. Way more fun, but you probably shouldn't increase the difficulty as the massively increased enemy counts will increase the difficulty itself without having to change anything.

P.s. If you don't unlock dual wielding first, you're playing the game wrong.

Pretty nice little story wrap up for goth Talion. Its not a masterpiece by any means and if you didn't like the base game you wont like this, but its worth the extra dollar or two for the complete edition in my opinion. 7/10

Side note: Pretty sure this got review bombed because you play as a woman. Stay classy, gamers.

Early Access Review
They have a lot of neat ideas that could be a unique and fun game, but a tactical game in third person simply makes no sense. I genuinely do not understand why they ever thought third person was a good idea in this close quarters setting as it always just devolves into an endless corner peaking competition. These types games need to be in first person to have any amount of fair play and a sustainable player base. I suspect this will be dead in a year if they do not make this change.

I really wanted to like this game, its just too obnoxious, unfair and repetitive and the core gameplay isn't fun enough to make up for that. I think games like WASTED and barony have tried this format far more successfully.

A very solid take on the ARPG/diablo clone genre. It does enough different that it really feels like a breath of fresh air in the moment to moment gameplay compared to its contemporaries. Weapons sound beefying feel very satisfying to use with some flashy effects and a very well done corpse and environmental destruction system. The campaign is very long and there are side quest campaigns that are roughly the same length. All together it took me almost 50 hours to beat without touching any events, endgame or repeatable modes.

While the core game is excellent, I have one major grievance and a minor criticism. This game is made on a custom engine, and boy does it show. This performs like it came out in 2018, but it looks like it came out in 2009. The worst offender is the "frame blending" option which is necessary to get the game running at any reasonable frame rate. This option makes characters look blurry, artifacted and out of focus. If you can swallow the sub par graphics, you'll find an excellent game underneath. My second minor issue with the game is that its simply priced too high for what it is. This game is not a AAA game, and it should not be priced as such. Luckily the game can be found at steep discount on various sites and steam itself. I bought this game for roughly 8 USD, and I think it could reasonably be worth more to most. 7.5/10

I'm not fully sure how this got in my library. The game is extremely cringe in english, maybe a little better in japanese but not much. The combat makes no sense at all and feels awful. The women dress like strippers but look and sound about 12. Creepy. Avoid unless you're a massive weeb who loves terrible gameplay.

Really glad I stuck with this one. I really liked Greedfall so I thought I'd try its predecessor. The graphics, worldbuilding, art style and story are fairly good imo. Lots of quests, factions and key choices that matter down the line. I think the combat is fairly decent as well. I hated it at first, but like many eurojank RPGs the protagonist starts out very underpowered and then becomes a god towards the end. You start out as a weakling and there is a particularly obnoxious boss in the very beginning which seems like poor design, but soon after that the difficulty goes way down once you get some levels, perks, armor, upgrades, companions etc and the combat starts to actually be fun.

My only real gripe with this game is the mediocre to unintentionally hilariously bad voice acting. Unfortunatley that comes with the territory in low budget games and given the super low price (I got it for 1.69USD) it is understandable. Bless the armory mans heart. I don't think the actor was even trying and we love him for that. 6/10
