This is an amazing 2D platformer, I'm tempted to say that is one of the best platformers of all times, but with so many indie games, it's very hard to assure something like that, but I feel confortable sayting that it has the quality in gameplay and level design of the best 90s platformers and also, it has an amazing pixel art with more variaty and detail than any 16 bit console.
Yes, this game is heavly influenced by classic Sonic, but at the same time, fixes lots of issues that prevents many of us from enjoying a classic Sonic game (like the lack of spindash button, the large delay to gain speed, the limited fov and the camera that doesn't gives extra visibility ahead when running) and also, it incorporates elements of other great action platformers, mainly Megaman X and Gunstar Heroes.
I have to say it: the boss fights are huge, epic and badass.
It has some drawbacks, but all of them can be prevented to be serious drawbacks:
1. Like a modern Sonic Game it tries too hard to be a story-driven game with a "serious" and "epic" story that just doesn't work. Fortunatly, the game has the option to be played without the story, just the stages (at the beggining of the game, you can choose between "adventure" mode and "classic" mode, do yourself a favor and pick "classic")
2. The game have 3 playable characters: Lilac, Carol and Milla. It's very fun to play as Lilac; but with Carol, most of the time I feel that I'm controlling an slow character in a game that it's supposed to be a lot faster (with the exception of the motorcycle power up, with that powerup is very fun to play as Carol); and Millia, it's just not worth playing.
The good news is that you can play all the game with Lilac and ignore the other two characters.
3. Comparing with the stages, some bosses are too hard and sometimes they can feel unfair. I'm not saying that the game shouldn't be hard, I'm saying that the difficulty is not consistent, some times it's easy to beat a whole stage without dying once and after that, die 10 times with the boss. Fortunatly if you got stuck, it's possible to decrease the difficulty of the game by just reseting the stage(it's not necesarry to restart the whole game).
As a whole, Freedom Planet is a great game, I recommend this game to anyone who enjoy the 2D platformers, even the ones who doesn't like Sonic.

Like you already saw in the trailer and the screenshots, the art style in this game is amazing I can be hours writing about that art style but you can see it by yourselves.
Now about the game itself, the first 10 minutes of the game have almost no-interaction and are like an animated short film, fortunately, a very good one.
After that 10 minutes, all changes and starts the real game.
This game is a very standard metroidvania, very challenging and with a lot of focus in platforming (relying very much in things like wall jump, double jump, and jump impulse yourself in enemies or enemies projectiles). I think the weak point in this game is the combat, it's very original but at the same time, I feel the combat erratic. If you played Aquaria, it's that kind of combat.
About the level design, it's ok, I think it tries to replicate some things from Super Metroid but with little success, for example:
It has a part when you fell in a tall pit and you need to gain abilities to return, but the game doesn't have the claustrophobic feel, so the feeling of "I want to go out of the pit" is not strong at all; and also, this game has no fast travel (very risky for a metroidvania), and tries to reduce the backtracking relying only in the level design, you can activate switches to open shortcuts and the new abilities allows you to take more shortcuts, but still it's not as good as Super Metroid in reducing the backtracking, I think it could be better with a limited fast travel(like the ones found in SOTN or Guacamelee).
Overall it's a solid metroidvania game with great art style. Buy it if you like metroidvanias and have patience for some tricky platforming sections(like Guacamelee or Super Meat Boy), and don't buy it if you expect something like Journey of don't want the game to be too challenging in platforming.

If you enjoyed all the AC games, it's likely that you will enjoy this as well. But if you enjoyed only some of them, maybe you will not enjoy this game.
AC: Revelations takes some elements of AC: Brotherhood, remove some of them (like the horse, or Da Vinci's War Machines) and add some new elements (tower defense mini-game, creating bombs with different properties and a hook).
I miss some of the removed elements, the new elements didn't translate very well into gameplay and overall, I felt this game very boring and repetitive, it's one of the few games that mades me yawn (the first AC also "accomplished" that).
I think the reason it's because all the game has the same aesthetic and it's on the same city. Brotherhood was a great game and it was mostly in a single city, but in brotherhood had the Bruto's Lairs that had very different aesthetics and gameplay, same with Da Vinci's War Machines, and many missions of the main plot, and also, some parts of Rome felts very different.

One of my favorite action-adventure games; but be careful, this game has a different tone than the first Lords of Shadow and also, it has big plot holes and some gameplay flaws.
The combat is very similar to the first Lords of Shadow, but improved.
The puzzles are easier but most of them are more related to the game than the puzzles of the first Lords of Shadow ( now many puzzles involves using the abilities of Dracula instead of moving pieces in a board).
This game also have camera control with the right stick instead of the predefined camera of the first game.
Another noticeable change is that now there are exploration in the game, it's really a 3D Metroidvania game, where you unlock new areas while getting new powers.
About the tone, LoS 2 has an atmosphere much darker than the first one, basically you explore two worlds: one is very similar to the first game(but darker), and the other one at the beginning may look like an arkham city less appealing, but most of the game it's more like the first Darksiders atmosphere.
The story also remind me Darksiders and a little bit of Hellboy.
The bad parts: there are some stealth sections that feels out of place and there are not very fun, the first hour of two of the game(after the prolog) are not very good, Dracula doesn't look like a vampire(but you can buy a skin :) ), and the game has some annoying on-screen suggestions (fortunately, they can be deactivated in the menu).
Even when these shortcomings most of the game is great.
