In the 1850s and 1860s, some people in England believed that riding trains could cause a mental disorder called "railway madness", with symptoms like screaming, leaning out of windows, and even attacking fellow passengers, according to Trains.

As the 19th century progressed, the supposed curse of "railway madness" began to fade away, only to be replaced by a new phenomenon: "cat boy madness".
