This is a great game, if you can get it to boot properly.
I’ve never been much of a dogfight game lover but it was high time someone did a modernized version of X-Wing/Tie Fighter. The mechanics of balancing shields/weapons/engines keeps you engaged and attentive to what’s going on, each fighter feels unique and specialized and there are plenty of loadout options.
The campaign is pretty typical, escort missions, bombing runs, surprise raids, while trying to overcome objectives. You play both the Rebels and the Empire, each with unique wingmates with personalities and ships to correspond. The campaign is only around 8ish hours long, so there isn’t really much time to get to know your wingmates or get acquainted with a specific ship, unfortunately.

This game is unfortunately plagued with a terrible online meta and terrible functionality in general. Most of the times I have attempted to boot this game up, it crashes instantly on startup. EA abandoned this game after a singular content update and left it to the wolves. Playing online is like grinding teeth when you go against someone who knows how to abuse the mechanics and leftover bugs to destroy capital ships instantly or pull impossible turns in Y-Wings. It’s just… not fun anymore. Maybe if this game received at least a small amount of support, it would be worth it. I can’t recommend this game for those who don’t want to experience the campaign. If you roll the dice correctly to get the game to even boot up, the multiplayer will leave you feeling overwhelmed and exploited at every opportunity, outclassed by people who exploit a plethora of bugs and glitches to win a dying game.
