I hate darkness simulators. I hate not being able to see in a game.
I also hate cheap jump scares that work. Working doesn't change the fact that they are still cheap.

Old & ugly realistic shooter sandbox / 1o

If you simply want to have an on-demand interactive three-dimensional database as a reference for every single gun in the base game without wasting your precious time with "games", grinding experience points, etc., then this is the purchase you need to make. You will not regret it.

Unfortunately, the vanilla experience is universally being given up upon. Fortunately, the AC Ultimate Edition (i.e. including all the DLCs) regularly goes on sale for a total of 10 EUR. "Unleashing the full power" of AC happens after you install a third party "thing" (a mod manager), called "Content Manager", and, after that, install all the mods that you want and/or that could possibly exist for AC. For most people, this is too much work and I understand that. Although, if you're reading a review for an automobile simulator, then your interests are already niche enough and you've probably done the extra work of buying yourself at least some entry-level hardware (which is the more resource-demanding part), e.g. G920+gear shifter.

Another drawback of AC vanilla is the damage model. It is ancient, considering the fact that soft-body physics technology existed back in 2013 (Kerbal Space Program was also released (early access) in 2013). This last thing is delivered by BeamNG.drive, which is a pretty cool project by a German company and I happen to be observing their work for a few years now (they work slowly, but it's clear that they really love what they do and strive for greatness):

AC is still a nice simulator with nice cars and can be a lot of fun (with a proper physical wheel, pedals, and a gear shifter, of course). It's just that its age is apparent by today's standards (November 2024). Kudos to Kunos Simulazioni for creating their proprietary engine with the original AC! A couple of months ago, they also released the trailer for the next game — Assetto Corsa EVO, he-he.

If you want to make AC looking better than ACC, then install these: Content Manager (mod manager), CSP (Custom Shaders Patch, modern dynamic lighting), PURE (wеather simulation; the successor of SOL). If you're too lazy to google those, check this video (it's slightly outdated, so you'll have to find PURE yourself anyway):
