This isn't a "speedrun" but this is a frantic game with multiplayer in mind. The basic idea is to run off the edge of the screen causing your opponents to lose. With grapple mechanics like Worms/Spiderman and special items to trip up your opponents this is quite a captivating little game. There are a large number of different character skins to unlock and different levels. Each level is structured completely differently with various obstacles. It's pretty cheap and cheerful and definitely worth considering if you like games which are easy to learn but tough to master.

While there are still some bugs, overall this is a great arena survival game. The weapon variety is alright with more due to be added soon. The current map is fairly large and you get to spawn in a few areas (it's not quite as random as I'd like). You can do basic Battle Royale, Teams for 2/5 players, Ignition (quad bikes with explosives that turn on unless you're in the safe zone) and Skirmish (mode with new rules each month). Overall, worth a go.

This is a clever game that follows The Walking Dead story with a few deviations while still keeping the original spirit of the show alive. While it is a different genre to the original Escapists, it uses the assets and engine quite well and it bumps things up to the next level with regards to weapons and enemies. The survival mode is fun and overall it's a great way to experience the WD story.

Phantom Pain starts with a timeskip. This not only forces the player into unfamiliar territory but sets the scene for the rebuilding of Mother Base and reformation of what will turn into Diamond Dogs. While you still have a villain and a new Metal Gear, this game is quite different from Solid Snake's games. You spent a lot of time completing side missions and getting new soldiers for your base. Each soldier has their own advantages, some soldiers even have negative traits that you need to be aware of. Your choice on which squad they end up in allows you to research better equipment for your missions.

Like previous games, stealth is important but equally if you have a strong arsenal of weapons then you could easily ignore being quiet, although some missions will be a lot harder if you do this. Inevitably there are some missions where stealth is impossible, so you'll need to be good at fighting to some degree.

Unlike the Solid Snake games, each mission is stand-alone. This means you can focus on being the best you can during the mission, without having to redo everything from scratch if you make a mistake. The lengthy cutscenes mainly happen at the start of the game and while there are some segments like this later, they are by no means comparable with MGS3/4 in frequency. The end of the game has a compelling closing chapter after the main villain is defeated and there are other players' bases to invade and loot supplies from. Using the fulton to grab supplies and vehicles is key to having a truly great base.

Overall I've enjoyed my time with this game. It's something you can play a bit of each day and watch as your army gets stronger and stronger. The only problem with the sandbox world is there are no civilians, but there are wild animals and prisoners to rescue. It's a great game if you like the franchise and definitely a well-made experience.

In my opinion, the developers have spent their time wisely. They tweaked the things that needed work in the last game and they added many new features. Turning Power Armour into an equippable suit of armour that needs charging makes it more special and gives it a unique purpose. Building homes for settlers along with expanding small settlements finally gives you a purpose for picking up all that junk. As always, exploring the wasteland is always fun and the emphasis on the player character's actions has never been greater. Hearing your character's voice speak the dialogue makes it feel more like a modern action/rpg like Mass Effect, which in my opinion is a good thing. If you've got a PC powerful enough to run this, you'll have a blast!

H1Z1 is an early access game primarily focused on survival and crafting. There are multiple ways to play. PvE servers allow you to make friends with other players and not worry about getting killed by other players, it's good to start with and teaches you the basics in a safe way. In PvP servers, all bets are off. While you can potentially make friends, there are untrustworthy players and raiders who would love nothing more than to rob you of your goods.

There is a heavy emphasis on crafting, particularly basic items like makeshift bows, wooden arrows, bandages, a shelter, clothing and important tools. You can use items like campfires to cook food and boil water to make it safe to drink. Furnaces allow you to craft more advanced metal items with shards. In these servers you will find zombies along with wildlife such as wolves, deer and bears. Vehicles are uncommon and most of them will be missing key items like Sparkplugs in order to get them working.

The survival experience in my opinion is beyond what exists elsewhere and you would be hard pressed to find a survival game which is evolving and improving on a weekly basis like this one is. Battle Royale is the other major way to play and some exclusively play this mode for its risks and rewards in equal measure. In this mode you are parachuted into the arena and have a few minutes to gather supplies before poison gas creeps in. When this hits you, you have a few minutes to get out of there before the gas slowly suffocates you. Along with the ever-shrinking safe zone there are other players to contend with. All alliances are only temporary and at best, you can try to avoid others but eventually it is kill or be killed. Are you tough enough to survive?

For even more of a challenge there is Hardcore Battle Royale which has day/night features and zombies. The risk is so much higher and only the top #1 player will get a reward (but it is a great reward and much rarer than the standard BR prize). For prizes you can obtain Crates which contain unique skins. You can either take a risk and open them with a purchased key or you can sell them on the Steam Marketplace. These skins can be applied to a variety of items and spice up your game by making you stand out from the crowd (or blend in with camouflage).

A mode added recently and still in development is the Team Battle Royale which allow you to go in with Steam friends and raid as a group. This last mode in particular changes the dynamic a lot and makes you act as a team, every wasted bullet could lead you down the slippery slope to your team losing! There's 2 man Team BR and 5 man Team BR (with the possibility of playing with strangers as well). In my opinion this is a great game that just gets better and better. This is well worth your time and being part of a unique and fun experience. See you in Pleasant Valley!

Don't buy this one at full price. It adds a short mission to the game but beyond a look at Turing's famous Bombe machine there isn't a lot of great things to see. Wait for a sale if you really want this.

When I first picked up Hate Plus I had no idea what I was getting into. While you spend a lot of time reading, the stories are very well written. Your robotic AI has a lot to say and her emotions are clearly portrayed on the anime artwork present. You get choices at various points in the story which affect the mood of your AI buddy.

You can unlock new bits of text at regular periods before you have to take a break and read again. This keeps you coming back for more and overall it does a great job at establishing the universe. Personally I've enjoyed this and this is well worth picking up if you like reading blogs and trying to understand the emotions of others.

Skullgirls is a great fighting game and easily matches the greats such as Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter (back when they were 2D!). The art is fantastic and each character moves in their own way. The game is as violent as it can be for a 2D game and some character art is rather grotesque (intentional no doubt).

The story is well put together and there are plenty of twists and turns. Maybe one downside is some matches happen without any discussion beforehand but it would get boring to write 10 pages of dialogue for a one-off fight. Overall I would recommend purchasing this, particularly on a sale. The multiplayer aspects are bound to keep players coming back after the main story is done.

This is a lot more than just a Terraria clone. It feels like a huge expansive world filled with many things to explore. Each planet feels different and the crafting system seems to be varied enough to keep players coming back. The races look and feel distinctive and the tutorial quest is a big improvement over the previous one. Mining using the manipulator is a great way to start out and torches are of course highly important to a good questing experience. I'm looking forward to what new features are added over time.
