Expanded Mission Names (WotC)

Description
Ever feel like there just isn't enough variety in the mission names churned out during your campaign? I sure did after being offered "Operation Spider Killer" in three consecutive campaigns. So I decided to do something about that.

This mod adds over 1900 words that the game can pick from to generate mission names, in addition to what is in the base game.

This version requires the War of the Chose DLC. For the vanilla version, go here:

***Update 9/2/17***
- Launched War of the Chosen version. I'm 99.9% sure that the original version of this mod is compatible with either version of the game, but this will ensure 100% compatibility with WotC.
- Since I'm actively playing XCom again (as I'm sure many others are since the new expansion dropped), you can expect to see more updates to this mod in the near future.

***UPDATE 2/10/17***
- Added around 400 new words to the lists, bringing the total of new additions to +1900.
- Removed ordered references from all of my additions (thanks to Dragon32 for the tip). This should allow my mod to be fully compatible with any other mods that add to the mission name arrays. (In personal testing, this also seems to make the results even more random than before. Yay!)
- Finally updated the preview image to remove that typo....
- Speaking of typos, I think I have everything spelled correctly. Give me a shout if you find any I missed.

***UPDATE 5/20/16***
- Shuffled some of the mission name lists. This should keep the game's PsuedoRNG from clustering in the default names and generate better variety.
- Removed duplicate words from the base game lists (Firaxis used "Purple" and "Tears" twice in the same list....)
- Added a few new words, and removed a couple I wasn't happy with.
- Fixed typos (I'll fix the preview graphic eventually)

Disclaimers and disclosures:

- Should not conflict with any other mods.

- The vast majority of the new additions are in keeping with the game's original flavor, but there are a small number of wacky options (because sometimes you need a good laugh after watching your soldiers get curbstomped for the 100th time). If you are the type who is concerned about the tiny possibilty of "Operation Squid Pants" showing up and breaking your immersion, consider this fair warning.

- There are a very small number of "strong" words like "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" and "♥♥♥♥♥" included that I felt were in line with the game's tone. Since I do understand that some people are more easily offended than others, I felt I should offer a warning. This mod DOES NOT contain profanity, vulgar language, or blatantly inflammatory terms. I haven't combed through every possible combination, though, so please let me know if the game accidentaly churns out something inappropriate.

- You will see words reused during a single campaign, and you will still run into plenty of vanilla Op names. RNGesus does not answer to me.

- English only. I have no plans to translate this to any other languages at this time.

Does that mean if i edited the XComGame.int adding a few names myself i will get your on top of that or does it overwrite them?

Hi there, this is causing a crash within the latest 1.3 release of the Alternative Mod Launcher.
Possible bug theory is this;

Look like a bug in the RTF parser.
AML 1.3 supports extended formatting for the mod description
Probably some edge case due to some uncommon formatting

Is happen on both versions (vanilla and WOTC), sorry to bug report in both :)

@I_burner: Ah, thanks for the explanation! That explains it perfectly.

@Philadelphus - The "Name" and "Word" groups are two separate pools that the game pulls from to create mission names. It first picks which of those pools it is going to use, then randomly picks a "first" and "second" string from that pool. So your mission names will always be either "FirstOpName SecondOpName" or "FirstOpWord SecondOpWord".This is the default behavior of the game - I just added to the existing lists. Glad you are enjoying it.

Hey, a question about the config file: I see sections for m_aFirstOpName, m_SecondOpName, m_aFirstOpWord, m_aSecondOpWord, and I'm just wondering what the difference is? Does the game randomly grab from either of the "first" categories, and then either of the "second" categories, or is there something more complicated going on? Thanks. A really nice mod by the way, I had a downed UFO mission called Operation Evil Engine the other day. :)

I defo would of subbed to this but i dont fancy the silly names. Would be better if you could do a seperate version with only proper words minus the silly ones, i think this would be alot more popular in that case

I actually a mod in the works to expand both soldier names and nicknames. Probably some weeks off, as my free time is limited.

There are a number of mods on the Workshop for vanilla XCom 2 that do do that as well. I haven't tested any of them, but they probably work just fine in WotC.

Hey. You could probably use your logic to create another mod that works in tandem with this one. With a different set of strings, you could expand the list of nick names used by the troopers when they rank up. Just from your screen shot above "Rider", "Ravager", "Dancer", "Jester", "Walker", "Beast".
