Description

VIKING 1 is an advanced craft with excellent mobility, best filling the pirate, explorer or scout roles. It comes with a detachable micro base that allows it to perform interplanetary jumps! There are hardpoints for your own upgrades; you can easily add more weapons or equipment to this versatile craft.

Viking's strongest feature is its immense thrust. With three types of engines it can go to and from planet's surface with ease, and it handles really well in the atmosphere. It is fun to fly.

The Microbase has an assembler that you can use to recycle captured or salvaged components, and you can upgrade it at will.

There are multiple hardpoints under the wings that you can fill up with your own weapon loadouts. For now I've placed two mini-drones that you can use to scout ahead in space, or kamikaze them into enemies. This little drone can even be fired into the planet, and you can use it to scan large areas with a camera while the parachute slows down your descent.

Viking pilot manual:
Press 1 to detach from the microbase.
Press 2 and 4 to detach remotely controlled probes under each wing.
The rest is easy to figure out.

Advice:
- when you detach from the microbase, make sure it doesn't drift away (stop it with landing gears and turn it into a static station, for example)

- when you finish the jump, you should detach from the microbase, as the refilling jump drive will drain your power output

Have fun wit this craft. I've spent weeks building the main fuselage and testing the engine/weight ratio. I'm pretty happy with the results although it took so long to fit everything right.

---------------

Gemma, their leader, hailed me: “Iyor, we couldn’t get everyone out.”

“Were you attacked by pirates?”

“What? No, it was that damn ace pilot.”

“The one from the cruiser perhaps? The red-and-white heavy fighter?”

Gemma hissed: “That one. Curse his black soul. We simply couldn’t keep up. All of us were on it, but he dodged away to mow down and cripple retreating targets. Then he came back at those moving in to rescue them. Demon!”

From the novel: “Janitors of the Late Space Age”

I’ve written a science fiction novel titled: "Janitors of the Late Space Age" inspired by Space Engineers. If you are looking for something to read - you can get it from Amazon as an electronic book or paperback.

@ Mr. Good - yeah. They used to work fine, but one of the game updates made the Viking spin around. Removed for now.

The guided missles are missing?

Alright, I've managed to fix this because I like this fighter. It shouldn't spin wildly anymore. I have omited the torpedos though. But you can make those on your own.

It is because of the microbase attached to it

When i add this to a gane it just sits there and rotates, as if there was gravity in space.... it pitch's forward, over and over ideas of why? or a fix?

honestly, i think it is important to complain in a constructive manner...if not for that, keen probably wouldn't have addressed the issue with the thruster damage cone as fast as they did.
and i hope the same goes for the lock option for rotors and pistons.

in general though, i think keen finally needs to address the issue they have with communicating big and essential changes to the game beforehand of a release and involve the community more in the decision making about that.

@Joshua Norton - I do my best not to complain about the updates and how they mess up the workshop, but I've just discovered that all the wheel configurations for all my vehicles and rovers went through a reset. So I'm going through them one by one to fix the issue. *grumble grumble
