No Covert Ops Stat Boosts

Description
Overview:

This mod sets all soldier stat boosts gained from Covert Ops to 0. This includes Mobility, HP, Will, Aim, Dodge, Hacking and even Psi Offense, even though that last one doesn't seem to be spawnig. Covert operations which form soldier bonds, grant instant level-ups or anything not mentioned above should be unchanged. Since the game will now offer you a lot of "dud" rewards, I've also upped the kills gained per Covert Op from 1-2 to 2-3 to compensate.

Why do this? Because I believe the game is more immersive when our soldiers have weaknesses, as well as strengths. Grandpa might be a great medic, but he can't snipe the a fly in a hurricane. Holly may be an unrivalled sniper, but she can't tank plasma cannon shots to the face. Call it RP if you want, but there's something epic about soldier using only the tools they have available to solve seemingly insurmountable odds.

Compatibility and tweaking:

This mod consists of just a few simple ini file tweaks. Unless you're running mods which change the StatBoostTable in XComGameData or MinCovertActionKills / MaxCovertActionKills in XComGameBoard, you should be fine. To tweak the mod, go to your Steam\SteamApps\workshop\content\268500\1133163935 folder tweak either XComGameData.ini (stat boost effects) or XComGameBoard.ini (kills per Covert Op).

This mod will work just fine with existing save games, but won't take effect until the next month when new Covert Operations are generated.

Credits:

This mod is the result of a collaborative effort between myself and a few other people, listed below with their current Steam Names.

Gaz O'D: For the initial concept, as well as playtesting.
rexounnet: For pointing me towards where in the ini files Covert Ops stats are set.
Alexandr: For disambiguating what the stats actually meant and did.

Thank you kindly, everyone. The majority of this mod is your doing, I mostly just put it together in ModBuddy.

No no :) I still have the mod. I know what files I modded. The issue was I'm not sure where in the code the bonuses are defined. I recall it being a bit of a mess - needed people to point me to the exact definitions. I'm unlikely to be able to fix it, since - again - H aven't touched XCOM in over a year and don't really remember much about its UnrealScript structure.

According to the Alternative Mod Loader, this are the files: https://i.imgur.com/WF6prfU.png

Does that help?

I'll be honest, it's been at least a year since I made this so I don't remember what could have gone wrong. I remember having issues finding exactly where in the files the cover tops stat bonuses were defined, and it's possible I've missed some. My apologies.

This mod seems to work for most Covert Operations but not all. I've taken two screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/1vBrpeq
The other Operations you see did seem to work with this mod.
The only other mod I use that interacts with covert ops is "Improve Combat Intelligence for Everyone" which allows faction classes to go on that type of Operation, but I don't see how that could cause conflicts with this mod.

I understand, thanks for the reply.

I don't think so. Due to XCOM's instancing, anything you've already acquired keeps its stats. I'm only tweaking the "templates" from which new items are generated.

Does this retroactively remove the bonuses from soldiers? (I doubt it but that's the type of mod I'm looking for. I gave a Templar increased speed so often it's no longer fun and I just want all bonuses gone/)

You are being unlucky. This mod just tweaks a the bonus reward stats and doesn't actually mess with reward distributions. My personal experience has been that those can both be fairly rare, which non-streakbreaker RNG can sometimes make near non-existent.

Honestly, I remember having significant issues tracking those bonuses, myself. The Covert Ops system is... Kind of sewn together from a lot of different parts defined in a lot of different places.

Not the way I'm doing it, no. The way Covert Ops stat boosts work is by awarding your soldiers invisible permanent PCS. I didn't change the rewards, but rather just zeroed-out the stat boost values. I haven't dug into XCOM 2 in quite a while so I don't really know how to tweak the actual drop tables. Sorry.
