Merfolk

Description
An alternative race that replaces humans. This was a precursor to my underwater map...

Alluvion, the Sunken Ark, is now released!
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1192446295

For updates on the progress of the map, check it out on discord: https://discord.gg/ZjeTh3D

NOTE:
This mod is not necessary to play on Alluvion. There is a required map extension that covers this mod's content to make the map playable.

Due to the structure of the DevKit, there can only be two player pawn choices in-game. This is normally Human male and female. This mod replaces them with Merfolk male and female. Unless a workaround is found, this mod will always replace the default humans in the character creation. I'm sorry for the inconvenience!

Features include:
-Higher swim speed
-No drowning
-"Sprint" swim
-Jump out of water
-Higher starting health and strength (Because who doesn't want to go toe-to-fin with a shark?)
-Alternate colouring
-Steeper climbing angle
-Eat raw fish meat (It's hard to cook underwater, ok?)
-No shocks from eels or jellies
-Higher base Hypo/Hyperthermal insulation
-Slower walking/crawling/prone speeds
-Lower starting water, faster decrease on land

**IMPORTANT**
THIS MODIFIES THE PLAYER PAWN.
This means it probably will not work with other mods that alter the player pawn, including nudity mods. No naked fish people for you.

NOTES:
-Raw fish/prime fish can be eaten underwater. Nothing else at the moment can. This is because of how it works in the Dev Kit. Every food item needs to be replaced with a version that can be eaten underwater. This will take some time and is lower priority at the moment.
-Animation for jumping out of water and more fishy looking models for male/female are in the plan, but I am not an animator nor a modeler so it could take some time.
-This is NOT BALANCED for normal gameplay. I will include options to make this a more balanced mod for regular maps at a later point. For now, the goal is to balance it for an upcoming underwater map (ETA: 1 week until alpha testing)

Technical details:
-Water
Water starts at 50 instead of 100, and increases by 5 per level instead of 10. The time until dehydration is approximately 3 minutes on land, increasing by ~20 seconds per level.
-Health
Starting health is 200 instead of 100, and increases by 15 per level instead of 10. This is to account for the greater strength of water-dwelling creatures.
-Swim speed
Approximately 1.5x and 2.0x for base speed and sprint swimming respectively. This is just fast enough to avoid many threats underwater, but not all of them. Eels are faster than the sprint speed, and don't slow down. Although Merfolk are immune to the shock, they are still prone to the rest of the Eel's attacks and can be knocked out. The speed is great enough to avoid megaladon in low-population environments, but if the player cannot swim in a straight line, it makes it tricky, especially when running out of stamina.
-Shock proof
The player is immune to shocks from jellies and eels. This is to allow easier harvesting of bio-toxin and to avoid being trapped by a single shock. Jellies still do damage, and in a large group, still pose a great threat to the player.
-Eating food underwater
Currently, only RAW fish/prime fish can be eaten underwater. This will be adjusted in the future and a full list of underwater edibles will be included here for convenience. Additionally, some "land dweller" foods will no longer be "suitable" for consumption by Merfolk. This is to reduce the "convenience" of food and make survival a bit more difficult.
-Jumping out of water
This is best done by sprinting at the water surface. The jump is to enable the player to get out of the water in areas where there is nowhere to "walk" out of the water. There is no animation at the moment, but one is being planned out.

It seems like I can't feed my Otter with the reworked fish... Can't even cook it. (On the land) Does anyone has the problem or maybe even a solution? :D

What is this "steeper climbing angle" ?

Please add a fish tail pants skin, or an override of the character even further to add a mermaid tail.
This mod seems perfect, but with a tail it will be #1 on my mod list.

Any plans to add mermaid type skins to this mod? For example a pants skin that gives the appearance of a fish tail (Maybe a few different styles of fish even), gloves skins that give you webbed wingers, things like that. Just a think it would be a cool roleplayish addition.

Ok so shift/sprint swim stopped working for me. It worked once. No other mods. Very confused. I've tried restarting ark a few times. Weird.

I take it back, I wrote that before holding shift while swimming. NEVERMIND.

Thank you, this is a fantastic mod and everything I could ask for for an underwater playthrough. Kind of sad swim speed can not be leveled though. Especially for single player.
