Elysium - Scripted

Description
Mythic Greece. As an upstart demigod, you want to earn the favor of the Olympians and become a figure of legend yourself. Gather heroes and powerful artifacts, please the gods and bear their power to write your own epic tale.

This is a largely scripted version of one of my favorite games, Elysium. I first realized that Elysium was on TTS thanks to Samuraicat, and have to give a huge thanks for the tokens, decks, models, etc.! Check out the original mod that this came from here. https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=628775795

Now to continue with the description from BoardGameGeek.com

Let your allies achieve their destiny and enter the Elysium, home of the glorious and the brave. Once the stories are written, only one demigod will be chosen to stand at the side of Zeus.
Elysium is a game of set collecting and combinations in which players recruit cards representing heroes, items, powers and gods. These cards have many different powers and you can create powerful combination to earn gold (the help of the gods) and victory points (the favor of the gods). Each card belongs to one of the eight Olympians gods (a family), and shows a level (1 to 3).

During the five turns of the game, players will try to transfer their cards to the Elysium and write their own Legends, which are series of cards from the same family or from different families of the same level. The more epic the Legends, the more favor from the gods they’ll earn. But as they go to Elysium, most cards lose their power and players will therefore have to renounce some of their combinations !

A game of balance and opportunity with simple action, but constant dilemmas and complex strategies.

Scripting Notes:
This is the first game I've completed scripting (though can you ever say your work is "completed"?) and I think it turned out really well! If there's something that glitches despite my script notes in game, tell me, and I'll work to find and fix the problem.

Setup is almost completely scripted. Simply select which 5 families you want to play with by pressing their respective buttons, and the game begins.

The gameplay is mostly interactive, as the choices made by players can be quite complex and this also allows for any organizational styles to be used.

The rest of the minor scripting notes are in the notebook in-game, so check them out!

I've also included some thoughts on varying the gameplay for new and exciting play throughs!

I definitely plan to expand on this in the future, so if you have any recommendations, I'd love to hear them!

As a final word, the BIGGEST thank you goes to Space Cowboy Games, without whom we wouldn't have this game in the first place! If you like this game, check out their website (http://www.spacecowboys.fr/elysium) and support the developers by getting a hard copy! That's all folks! See you on the playing field!

Thank you so much! I'm actually working on some updates and fixes for the scripting thanks to Stormbirdd's suggestions. I'm glad people have been able to enjoy this game as much as I have!

Hi, wanted you know that your mod has been added to my collection: Board Game Geek - BGG - May 2020 - Best Mod for each of the Top 500 Rated Games. Collection here: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2086043930

The collection used this priority system:

1. Mod's Files Availability: Mod with all/most files still available for download
2. Feature completeness: Mod with greatest inclusion of expansions and/or promos available for the board game title
2. Scripting: Mod with scripting that most reduces work in setup/play for players
3. Component Quality: Mod with the best visuals/usability in terms of component quality
4. Table Setup/Ambiance: Mod with the best immersion with table, background, and other modeling.

Please also note that a mod that makes selection for this list very well could be one in which the mod author borrowed the majority of assets from another workshop listing, so full thanks to all who worked on a mod.

Thanks for your hard work!

Three of us are playing right now. Man, this is such a great game.
Can you also, when you look at the script again, remove the visible grid lines and also take out the "Camera #x" words? I realize those are preference things, so absolutely you can disregard this latter. Thanks again.

@Stormbirdd thanks for the kind words! It did move the epoch marker and put out new cards when I first programmed it 2 1/2 years ago, so I'll check in and find out what's going wrong. Thanks for letting me know and for the suggestions!

My three friends and I LOVE Elysium! Two of us played our first game today. Thank you so much for creating this!!

A question about the "Next Epoch" script: right now all it seems to do is to clear away the remaining Family cards. I thought perhaps it should also:
- Return columns to players
- Set out a new set of Family cards based on number of players
- Advance the Epoch marker
Also, it would amazing if it counted Victory Points for you. Not all of them at end game - that would be quite complex - however many you have on the board. But that's a nice-to-have.

Anyway, thanks again. We'll be using this mod a lot.

Samuraicat, I have to thank you again! Without your mod as a starting point, what was a three day project would've been at least a week or two long project! I'm glad you like it!
Samuraicat 11 Oct, 2017 @ 4:17pm
Very cool that you took the time to do this. I don't personally have any desire to learn scripting but I'm glad you were able to take my mod as a base for this version.

Thank you for bringing that up, as that actually showed me another bug that I missed in my initial testings! Hopefully that put you off too much. I hope you'll try it again now that I've fixed it. If you find anything else, please don't hesitate to tell me!
