Description
OBOW: Pronounced "oboe" (yes, like the instrument), it stands for "Overseer's Balance Overhaul for Weapons".

This is a script that upgrades the Pump Shotgun, but unlike my other pumpshotgun Rebalance mod, this one is more realism-focused. The most major differences being a realistically tighter spread, and a real-world (smaller) magazine with a bit more damage to compensate, along with a few other small changes (all listed below). It'll still be way more powerful than the semi-auto shotguns PER SHOT, but with its smaller magazine and pump-action fire rate, won't deal as much damage per second. A reliable point-blank powerhouse or short-to-medium-range eliminator.

Just keep in mind that this is a drastic rebalance of this weapon, and you shouldn't use it the way you would use the original, unmodded gun. As was mentioned above, crowd-clearing is negatively impacted by the tighter spread, despite its powerful penetration. My recommendation is to keep a secondary weapon ready to cover for this weapon's shortcomings, to allow its strengths to really shine.

Pro tip: reload whenever there's a pause of any length, not just with this script or even this gun, but with any shotgun, modded or unmodded.

Also note that all shotgun reload speeds are hard-locked in Left 4 Dead 2, meaning they're completely unchangeable by me. Which sucks, because I wanted to buff the pump-action shotguns to the same reload speed as the semi-auto shotguns. Regardless, I'm still happy with how it turned out.

Any order you like, as long as they get made that's all that matters.

@Christinson:
Those difficulties sound hectic. xD And yeah, I'll add a secondary shotgun to the list. It'll probably work similarly to the one you showed me, but I'll make it fit in with my own balance.

@Godfather:
Yeah, that's on the list of stuff I need to make. The next Gritty Realisms I make will probably be the semi-auto shotguns though.

Thanks a ton for your mods, Overseer. I play expert quite a bit, and soon to be nightmare.

Your scripts make the game feel way different and fresh. I played Left for Dead 2 a lot on console and I currently have heavily modded the game so that it would be a completely different experience.I have to say; almost all of my weapon scripts are from you, except a secondary shotgun script for the pump and a scout script I use. Though I already have a secondary shotgun script, I'd like to see your take on one. For better detail, I'll also provide a link to the pump shotgun mod.

Honestly just use these for realistic magazine sizes. Do you think at some point you could please make a gritty realism for any of the weapons you haven't done it for like the Uzi and the Mac-10?

I was just about to ask how you managed to oneshot a Witch, even with my scripts. I thought I goofed. You had me worried for a moment there. xD

Yeah, on easier difficulties enemy health scales dramatically. On Normal, Commons have 50hp, 67hp on Advanced, and 100hp on Expert. Same goes for Specials and Bosses. Tanks have 4000hp on Normal, and a massive 8000hp on Expert. Stressful doesn't even begin to describe that. xD

My mod was balanced for Advanced and up, but don't feel bad playing on Normal. We all have our own preferences, and should never be made to feel bad for them. Just keep playing the way you play. ;D

The Chrome shotgun is so OP tbh. I love it. I can one shot witches without even needing to risk crowning because it just does so much damage. I mean, I was on Normal, but that's pretty much the only thing I enjoy. Anything higher is too stressful.

@Christinson:
In the vanilla guns, the differences between shotguns in the same class were negligible. Something I don't enjoy. To answer your question, the Gritty Realism Chrome Shotgun fires less pellets with more damage each, has one more round per magazine, and a tighter spread (not always a good thing). While the Gritty Realism Pumpshotgun may have a smaller magazine, it's wider spread and many pellets make it far more practical for horde-killing.

You'll need to choose between them with actual forward-planning and strategy, an opportunity the original game missed. Hope this helps. :)

I'm glad to see this mod made, but what are the pros and cons between this and the chrome shotgun with both realism scripts enabled?

True.
