The Box

Description
Embark on a strange box opening journey with a simple goal: you have to win the game. Winning the game, however, is not as easy.

This game takes a lot of inspiration from the "unfolding" type game, so telling you too much about it would be spoilers. Other inspirations include Fluxx (I have been told), the dossier part of Pandemic Legacy, and Sopio.

The rulebook can be found here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0cG1CsmOBkiOFBDTnUyYXBlblk

The game can be played for up to 8 people, but if you for some reason want more, you can easily add more yourself. I personally recommend 4-5 players.

Playing time should be between 60-120 mintues, but due to the nature of this game, it can vary wildly.

Here's some answers for you:
*Gaining a stat does give you the associated stat counter. "Increasing" a stat does not and needs you to already have it.

*The boards are available to everyone. While the player that opens a box does get bonuses, this is usually restricted to drawing some extra cards and getting that Boxes Opened stat.

*If a box or deck doesn't have any cards in it and none in its discard pile, it no longer exists. You do effects as best as you can.
However, once you find another Ore Vein card and its discarded, it essentially creates a new Ore Vein deck.

Another thing, we got the Vein Ore deck thing, and the instructions card specifically told us to put every single Vein Ore card randomly in other decks, so there was no longer a "Vein Ore deck", it all got shared randomly between other decks.

What do we do after that if a card tells us to "Draw from the Vein Ore Deck" or something like that, if that deck is no longer existant? Do we just discard that card?

Also for example, I (player 1) unlocked the Store board, and put it somewhere on the table.
Who can use that? Just me, because I was the one who unlocked that box? Or can my friends use that board as well because we share it?
And that board uses Money. When do we get to use "Money"? We weren't able to use that board for like 40 minutes because no one unlocked the "Money" stat, not even me!

Cool cool game!! But I don't understand what stats are. We only start with Life and Wins, right? What if I draw and play a card that gives me "Cleanliness", or "Money", or "Points". Do I not get anything cause I haven't unlocked those stat counters yet? Are those stats hidden inside specific boxes that get unlocked once you draw them? Or once a card tells me to gain X stat, I automatically get that stat and grab a counter and call it "Cleanliness" for example?

The rulebook has a "Adding Your Own Boxes" segment with a link. I also suggest checking out The Box discord server (link is also in the rulebook on the same page). There's plenty of people to help you out should you need it, and other tips on making addons

do you have any sort of card template one could use for making more cards for the game, for thematic consistency?

i think it is an absolute crime that not one single youtube video has been made on this game
personally, i am going to change that

sure, i may end up with an 8 hour recording session to edit, but it will be worth it
perhaps a box series because my friends and i have yet to complete a game but i will be damned if that remains the case

If it's just keep in play, it's the general play area, affecting everyone.

Just played this with a friend, and had a blast. Thanks for making this!
I do have a rules question: If a card says "Keep in play" but nothing about where, should I put it in front of me(if so, does it just apply to me), or just somewhere on the table(with it applying to everyone)?

When a card ends your turn, all other steps in that turn are skipped. This includes end of turn effects and reducing your hand.
