And thanks :)
- if your mod doesn't work, you should re-check everything. (unwanted letters etc., double codings such as <gamedata></gamedata></gamedata>)
- go to mod properties (right click on your mod name) and then go to "actions" and make sure every .xml file is activated. You can read in the guide how to do this.
Good luck and thanks for your reaction!
- You need to set all the art files to "true" in properties, VFS. Otherwise, it won't work.
- Some of the image sizes aren't mentioned:
- the map image when selecting your civilization need to be 360 x 412 (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=390717)
- the DOM screen is 1024 x 768
- the diplomacy screen is 1600 x 900
As for all the different files, I suggest you go to Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization V/MODS and select any mod.
You can see all the files used for the mod over there. You can pretty much open it with notepad and copy/paste everything, then edit it.
- Spy names
- preferred religion
- don't forget to adjust any unique unit, since pre-industrial units can be bought with faith and there are a lot of differences between Vanilla versions of units and G-K versions units. (such as combat strength)
Furthermore, I suggest you look at the files in the following directory on your computer:
Go to your hard drive (usually :C) (Windows 7) -> Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/sid meier's civilization v/assets
From there either go to "gameplay/XML" for vanilla codings and "DLC/Expansion/gameplay/XML" for Gods and Kings coding. Open the appropriate folder and open the .xml files with notepad or a similar program (you can open it with internet as well). You can only use these codings for your mod. This also means you cannot use Gods and Kings codings for Vanilla versions.
For making Art: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=472547 (most of the techniques mentioned are the same in Gimp. It is easier if you download the English version of Gimp (if you don't speak English), because the names of the techniques will be easier to find. You should install it manually and choose not to include the language pack)
For converting into .dds files with Gimp 2: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=463116
Various modding tips can be found here: http://modiki.civfanatics.com/index.php/Civ5_Modding_Tutorials
You need the "Sid Meier's Civilization V SDK" program, downloadable from Steam along with an art program or let someone make your art. "Gimp 2" is a free alternative for Photoshop.
This art program also needs a so-called dds plugin, because the art files you're making need to be that type. The plugin can be downloaded from the internet, along with the instructions.
@dalton.renoll Thanks :) Well, I might someday make Lotr civs :P
