TDI Heroes

Description
Dependencies: TDI Abilities. The mod will not work without it.
Get it here: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1286672709

Do you always pick the same abilities and stats for heroes?
Ever had a level 30 hero be mind-controlled by enemy units?
Disappointed by the fact heroes don't gain new skills after level 11 (13 for sorceror)?

This mod changes all of that.

First off, TDI Heroes adds 3 subclasses to each hero based on their class.

At level 2, you can pick a powerful specialisation for the low cost of 1 hero upgrade point. From then on, your hero will gain new abilities based on that choice.

"I'm impatient, so shut up and show me the list already."
Sure, have a look over here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11pcGMEeu_VLiirWtF8FjXST-lUc3uif6m2S5lbrfgzY/edit#gid=0

Second: This mod adds a mindcontrol immunity pick to each hero. The latest you can pick this is level 5.

Third: There are over 300 new abilities added to heroes in total.
Abilities have been placed over the full 30 levels, with the level 30 ability being the ultimate skill for each of the subclasses.

Fourth: Yes, you can turn into a dragon with the shapeshifter class.

If any, or all, of that sounds interesting to you, give the mod a try.

Details time:

Each class gains the following subclasses:
WARLORD
- Warrior (General Melee DPS class. Has the highest Charge bonus of all classes. Speciality: Rage.)
- Protector (General Melee Tank class. Has a respectable damage output as well. Speciality: Last to Fall.)
- Weapon Master (Specialist DPS class. Uses various weapons to great effect. Speciality: Ars Arma Armatus.)

THEOCRAT
- Priest (Specialist Support class. Has the best Healing skills of all classes. Speciality: Regeneration.)
- Inquisitor (Specialist Support class. Controls enemy units to achieve victory. Speciality: Lesser Dominate.)
- Paladin (Specialist Tank class. Protects allies and is the bane of undead everywhere. Speciality: Hammer of Justice.)

ARCHDRUID
- Archer (Specialist Ranged DPS class. Has powerful ranged attacks and calls on the power of nature to assist in battle. Speciality: Shoot Greatbow.)
- Shapeshifter (Specialist Melee DPS class. Transforms into various animals. Speciality: Minor Shapeshifting.)
- Shaman (Generalist Support class. Gains various healing and support abilities while still sporting a range of powerful control abilities. Speciality: Restoration.)

DREADNOUGHT
- Guardian (Specialist Tank class. Is the hardest to kill of all classes. Speciality: Tireless.)
- Gunner (Generalist Ranged DPS class. Fires various modern and experimental weapons to great effect. Speciality: Fire Repeater.)
- Siege Engineer (Specialist Support class. Assembles machines on the battlefield. Extremely powerful in siege battles. Speciality: Create Ram.)

- Blue Mage (Specialist Tank class. Observes abilities in enemies to unlock the secrets of the Aether. Speciality: Aetheric Assimilation.)

ROGUE
- Thief (Specialist Melee DPS class. Uses mobility and poisons to strike opponents where it hurts the most. Speciality: Steal.)
- Privateer (Generalist Melee DPS class. Wields uncommon techniques to subdue enemies. Speciality: Combo.)
- Sniper (Specialist Ranged DPS class. Carries a prototype long range weapon that delivers bullets with deadly accuracy. Speciality: Fire Sniper Rifle.)

NECROMANCER
- Death Knight (Specialist Tank class. Feasts on the enemy's misfortune and life force. Speciality: Despair Strike.)
- Warlock (Specialist Support class. Raised the dead to fight once more. Speciality: Mark Blood Sacrifice.)
- Lich (Generalist Ranged DPS class. Launches clouds of death magic at distant enemies. Inflicts many extra effects. Speciality: Bombard.)

Notes:
The AI can and will pick any of the subclasses, except for the Archdruid's Shapeshifter. This is because transforming for heroes is not officially supported by the development team. It will work for your heroes, but keep in mind that it may produce errors in the log I cannot fix.
That being said, I've tested this feature plenty and it will not crash the game by itself.

If anyone wants to use my mods as a baseline to create their own mods, I am okay with that so feel free to use whatever you like.
For me, this whole project was mainly about seeing how far I could push ability design in this game, and I feel satisfied having done exactly that.

Hero classes are balanced to the other hero classes.
As this adds more abilities to heroes, this will make heroes stronger. However, every point spent in an ability is not one that went to stat points.
Also note that the abilities per subclass total for more points than the total amount of upgrade points you can get. You can download a mod that increases the points per level if you want to play with all of the abilities in one build.

Also the Warlord/Protector Shield Wall skill has an exploit that can be used with it. Move / attack/ makeeranged attacks with all units, then go into shield wall at the end of your turn. So tbh the defensive formation skill (not sure if its from base game or Empire building mod) where units get a defense bonus for each friendly nuit they're adjacent to seems more balanced.

Holy Champions seems to be doing extra spirit and fire damage to all enemy units now, rather than just monster, undead of dedicated to evil units, which seems wrong. Also rain of arrows seems way OP, especially considering a druid doesn't have to be all that high level to get it.

Ah right - thanks very much for the explanation. I like this mod a lot now.

"Spawn" is a type of attack. (Just like melee abilities apply to melee attacks and ranged abilities apply to ranged attacks). Steal is the unique action the thief class gains upon picking the thief class.
By default, steal teleports the unit to the target location and attempts to steal buffs from every unit one hex around it.
Toxic theft adds an inflict deadly poison passive to these abilities, so it makes steal also poison the affected units. (They will take blight damage each turn)
So, while this is a potential upgrade to the steal ability, the poison modifier will also apply to certain other abilities. And they will show this in their targeting tooltips if they are targeted abilities. This may include some abilities you want to use on friendly units, making the thief less useful for those abilities in particular. (Although a lot there depends on what items you find/craft)

I still don't understand the thief steal abilities. e.g It says "Spawn attacks inflict deadly poison. This applies to the Steal ability as well." What does that mean. What unit is meant by "spawn"? And what is the Steal ability on the Thief sub-class?

Does seem to let you take both empire building mod and TDI subclasses on the same hero , which is nice.

I haven't tested it myself, but it should be possible. This mod doesn't edit base game content and only adds new stuff, so it should be compatible with a wide range of mods.

Ah right - thanks again - makes sense now. I wonder if I take sub-classes from both Empire Building mod and your mod on the same hero (both seem to show up with both mods installed), will I be able to gt all skills from both sub-classes on the same hero? Or will it mess things up?
Naetell  [author] 17 Jul, 2023 @ 7:02am
Yes, those are the skills from the base game and they're available on all subclasses.
Dunadd 17 Jul, 2023 @ 6:30am
Thanks I see those now. But I don't understand them. I understand the three columns showing skills at each level for each sub-class. But then there's a fourth and fifth set of columns (columns H and I) showing other skills and levels which isn't under any sub-class. Is this kills that e.g any warlord hero can get at those levels whichever sub-class they are ? Or what?
