MEC 'Maculata' Torpedo Frigate (6-Slot)

The Muthos Engineering Consortium is proud to offer the 'Maculata' Torpedo Frigate!

Slightly larger than a 'Nocturna' Patrol Frigate and featuring two forward-facing heavy torpedo launchers, the 'Maculata' is capable of delivering withering firepower at considerable range. With space for nearly 300 torpedoes in reserve, the 'Maculata' can fire salvo after devastating salvo before needing to resupply.

Pros:
-Low entry cost
-Decent maneuverability
-High brake thrust
-Pretty good base hyperspace range (8 sectors)
-Large torpedo storage bays
-Armored internal frameworks for further upgrades
-Firepower can be scaled up by using better torpedoes

Cons:
-Fully arming the ship with torpedoes can be very expensive
-Hardpoints are not large enough to support double-size weapons
-No cargo bay by default (can be added by replacing frameworks)

-6x forward torpedo launchers
-6x size 1.5 weapons hardpoints
-6x size 1 point defense hardpoints

By default, the 'Maculata' comes equipped with VT-3 and VPD-1 custom turrets. If you'd like to use other MEC turrets with it, check out the MEC Signature Collection!

Just below the forward bridge of the 'Maculata' is a hexagonal area containing (behind glass) the logo of the Muthos Engineering Consortium. Customers are encouraged (though not required) to replace this with their own logo or heraldry of choice.

The MEC 'Maculata' Torpedo Frigate is a design I've had plans for since torpedo launchers were announced. Getting them to fire out of the forward tubes was a little bit more challenging than I anticipated, but they work beautifully. Because of the way the torpedo launchers are built, I cannot guarantee that this ship will work properly if it is scaled up or down, so I'd advise against doing that. The 'Maculata' is named for the bald-faced hornet, Dolichovespula maculata, which is able to shoot venom into the eyes of creatures attacking its nests. This "hornet" (actually a species of yellowjacket) has an unusual ivory coloration that was an inspiration for the ship's paint job.
