Description
I am no longer maintaining my Stellaris mods and, as a result, they are probably incompatible with the latest release. If you want to use my mods as the basis for your own, you are very welcome to do so.

---

This micro-mod allows you to repeat the "Mastery of Nature" planetary decision (granted by the "World Shaper" ascension perk).

The cost for this repeatable decision scales exponentially, to model the increasing difficulty of clearing more land for development:
  • Mastery of Nature: 100 influence + 2000 energy (base game; requires "World Shaper")
  • Mastery of Nature (Repeated): 200 influence + 4000 energy
  • Mastery of Nature (Repeated x2): 400 influence + 8000 energy
  • Mastery of Nature (Repeated x3): 800 influence + 16000 energy
  • Mastery of Nature (Repeated x4): 1600 influence + 32000 energy
  • Mastery of Nature (Repeated x5): 3200 influence + 64000 energy

In every other way, the repeatable Mastery of Nature decision is exactly the same as in the base game. In particular, each additional level adds +2 max districts.

Inspiration:

This mod was inspired by Asteyr's Repeatable Land Clearance Edict mod.

I made my own version because I felt that that mod's costs were too small (it was far too easy to max out the planet size) - and also because that mod gave much more land per edict than in the base game.

FAQ:

Influence is capped at 1000, so why do edicts 4 & 5 require more than 1000 influence?
Edict cost can be reduced significantly, even in vanilla (and other mods might add more sources of edict cost reduction). Similarly the influence cap can be increased by mods. Edict #4 is definitely possible (but rather expensive) without requiring other mods. Edict #5 is included for completeness, in case it becomes possible in conjunction with other mods.

Do I have to take the World Shaper ascension perk to be able to use this repeatable edict?
Yes.

Can the AI take this decision?
In theory, yes. However, I haven't observed this in practice. In any case, I think it is unlikely that the AI will take anything beyond the first one or two decisions, as they are unlikely to save up enough influence.

Technical Info / Compatibility
  • No vanilla files are altered, so this mod should be fully compatible with every other mod.
  • It's probably not a good idea to have more than one land clearance mod running simultaneously!
  • This mod is safe to add to a game in progress.
  • This mod is risky to remove from a game in progress. (For example, I don't know how the game will handle planets that are suddenly too big.)

Earlier versions / Beta versions:
  • All of my mods are available on Github[github.com] (eg. in case you want to revert to an earlier version)

TLDR:
  • Tested version: 2.2.1
  • Required DLC: None
  • Ironman compatible: Yes
  • Achievement compatible: No

rereading the discription i have to nitpick (sry that is a bad character trait of mine =) )
As you state the costs are increasing exponentially, which means at some point there is a hardcap depending on how far into the game you are and how developed your economy is whereby the limitation is basicly the maximum storable energy or influence points(wasn't there the max 1000 anyways, i might be mistaken)

still i am digging the concept and will give it a try

@hyperion9710 As per the FAQ, back in v2.2.1 there were many ways to reduce influence cost of planetary edicts. If those still exist in the current version then you should be able to do take the expansion the maximum of 6 times. But yeah, it is expensive!

@kinngrimm Yup, but you will need infinite influence cap or something. Cuz this thing is double up when you are repeating!

@kinngrimm I don't know; I don't play Stellaris any more. You'll need to test it for yourself (eg. use the console in a throwaway game).

is this mod still working?

@hyperion9710: Thanks for testing and letting everyone know!

and one more thing, this mod has worked fine on version 2.5.1, after this mod's compatible version '2.2.1'. and unless planetary district system changes, it should be compatible forever.

surprised that this mechanism never changed to this far, with massive updates.

Is this getting updated for the new version?
jonjowett  [author] 12 Dec, 2018 @ 4:38pm
Well, I did some personal testing and it seems to work, so I've pushed out the update for everyone. Note that I have increased the cost of the decision, in line with the new cost for "Mastery of Nature".

I also plan to rename the mod because there is no such thing as a "Land Clearance Edict" any more... but that'll have to wait until I can figure out how to rename things in-place. Not my highest priority.

In the meantime, let me know if you encounter any bugs, or if this seriously unbalances the game.
