United States Extra Large HEAVY (With Industries)

Description
In preparation for the performance mod, I have updated my Extra large map of the USA (with industry version) by adding a few additional towns that I felt were missing. North East and West Coast should be more busy now...!

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION
Stretched the map to the limits of the game engine and added most important cities. For the sake of Gameplay, I took a bit of lycense as to choosing which cities to place and moved them around a little bit. You can decide to start in New York (easy) and build your network south and west. Alternatively you can set up base in Chicago (also easy) or on the West Coast (difficoult as cities at the start of the game are rather small).

As far as I see it, this is the map size where the game engine is really used to the optimum. You can have local truck and bus routes, but they will be impractical over longer distances. Trains are the best compromise, but as you start stretching the network beyond the midwest, passenger transport becomes unattractive and planes are the better choice.

In fact, it is a very good map for using planes on. Distances involved between east and west coast will make air transport more practical than rail or land transport. Also, I have tried an airport hub in middle America (close to Kansas City), and passengers where actually connecting through it from/to all corners of the States.

A fast PC is really recommended, although the recent patches have really improved the late game gameplay. The upcoming performance improvement patch (expected Sept 2017) shoud smothen things out even more.

IMPORTANT

You will have to have experimental map size enabled to have this show up in the menu. Here below the link on how to enable this:

RECOMMENDED MODS

Also, I strongly suggest adding the vegetation increase mod. Here below the link:

As the map is so large, it will be a challenge to build an extensive transport network in any one era. I suggest you enable the Time Progression 2x times or (better) the 4x times slower. Here below the links:

Heavy has a few more cities on the map. Like in the North East it has Toronto, Bangor and Montreal that are not there in the non-heavy map.

The upside is that you will be able to make more realistic train Networks, for example making NYC into a real hub with several train lines heading out to it.

The downside is that the numbers of AI citizens will grow more quickly to a critical point when your machine will slow down.

Really depend what kind of hardware you have and how you like to play.

what is the difference between the non-heavy and heavy version of the map??

Hope they improve air travel too. On my saves I always creat huge airport hubs with several airlines and fast connections with downtown areas. However passenger numbers are always quite low as it sees the engine does not give high preference to air travel, even in the late game era.

Yeah, lakes seems a cert from the first dev blog, so that should spice up Salt Lake city! Maybe streams too. Only thing they haven't made clear yet is if the water only works at sea level. Would be great to see rivers from an uphill source and waterfalls!

I also hope the new game supports bigger maps as that would increase the length and speed of the Northeast Corridor.

Yes. I am already thinking about modifying the map:
- Slightly bigger map with more cities
- Modify cities to have a more "real" feel to them. If possible I would like to place individual buildings on the map, and tailor-make New York, Chicago, SF, LA at least...
- Paint the scenery to have a realistic look to the Midwest, Southwest, California.
- I would not mind re-working the mountains to have more realistic feel with more valleys rather than just rounded mountains. This is something that would be easy to do in the editor.
- Add some lakes and streams if the engine allows for this...

If you've seen the latest dev blog by Urban Games you must be excited, Dicapitano? THey showed off how you can paint terrain, so you can use the american desert biome and paint it green and add tress to vary the look. Your map will look amazing in TPF2 I'm sure! ;)

I have a question,
I'm looking to create an Illinois map and I want to create a map as big as yours. What steps should I take to make my map as large as yours. Also, I only use your map for my save games because it's epic awesome

Look at the instructions. You have to Mable experimental map size.
