V-Mods: Hero Morale

Description
V-Mods: Hero Morale

Point of the mod is to disincentivice stacking heroes, running in the wild with lone heroes, incentivize keeping around other units and using heroes as army leaders instead of spellmachines.

Undead heroes/leaders are unaffected by these changes.

Basic Hero Morale modifiers:

1. No Army
Heroes that are alone in a stack suffer a -300 Happiness penalty. (-400 in case of Leader)
Also a +4 Movement point bonus is given to lone Leaders/Heroes. (Moving around alone is faster)
Rogue heroes do not get the penalty, but get the movement bonus.
Having just 1 any other unit removes this penalty.

2. Friendly Domain
Heroes alone in a stack within own domain get a +250 Happiness bonus to counteract "No Army" penalty. (+350 in case of Leader)
Effectively lowering the penalty of not having an army to -50.

3. Shared Command
Heroes suffer a -200 Happiness penalty for each additional Hero in army (Had to include a base morale bonus of +200 to counteract the penalty from the first Hero to themselves. The Leader is excluded from this penalty as they are always “in command”.)
+ each additional hero causes all heroes to lose 3 casting points each. (max -15cp)

4. Bodyguard
Having 1 or more Heroes in the Leaders party gives the Leader a +75 Happiness bonus. (Shared command penalty still applies to each hero, excluding Leader). Does NOT stack beyond first Hero.
Effectively there are no penalties for having 1 Hero with the Leader, you just get the bodyguard bonus morale. A second Hero causes a -200 penalty for both non-Leader Heroes and doesn't add to the bonus for the Leader etc. etc.

Ally Bonus Modifiers:
The Leader and Heroes gain a happiness bonus from the units in the stack depending on their tier and type.

1. Powerful Allies
The presence of a T4 unit gives +25 Happiness. Does NOT stack.
2. Troops
Each Archer-, Pikeman- and Infantry- type unit gives +25 Happiness. DOES Stack.
3. Backup
The presence of a Support-type gives +50 Happiness. Does NOT stack.
4. Eyes in the Sky
The presence of a Flying-type unit gives +25 Happiness. Does NOT stack

These bonuses are also excluded from machine/undead/elemental heroes like most morale bonuses.

Compatibility:
Changes the contents of Hero, Leader, T4, Infantry, Archer, Support and Pikeman base/core abilities. Not compatible with mods that make changes to those as well.

Localization:
French Translation by user pipo.p. Google-translated for all other 3 localizations. Not so many added lines. Nothing shows up in unit panels, only in the unit happiness overview when you mouse-over there.

Technically you can set map-settings to 1-3 heroes. In later game with tens of units 2-4 heroes would be more usefull for their army buffs not direct combat abilities.

See changenotes for details on what was changed. Changed the morale penalties a lot etc.

hey, fixed the Leader/Hero bodyguard bug among other things you pointed out...

however the AI problem persists as there just is no way to control the AI to that extent in the editor. It is either impossible or it would require better tools and someone excelling in coding to do that....

though I did notice in my short test that the AI didn't seem to have more than 2 heroes in a stack with the current settings of this mod.. maybe the loss of casting points changed their behavior, it just works that way or it was a fluke.

I also included your french translation.

Quote: "If I can find out how to do it, I'd like to change the way AI uses heroes. To make them use only 1/stack."

At first, perhaps, wouldn't it be easier to make AI heroes not affected by any or some of the new morale effects? (Just suggesting) I got another example: a hero in the wilderness after an AI resigned: lone and consequently even more vulnerable than in vanilla game.

Hey, thanks for the translation! It's great. I'll include them when I patch the mods. I'll probably take a look at this mod next weekend and start to get back to modding slowly. I have a surprising amount of RL work to do so new content for my mods will have to wait until the holidays and/or next year.

Also, the Partisan ability should protect a lone hero from suffering a morale loss.

With this in mind, what about extending this immunity to Rogue heroes, or at least, to those who benefiting from a certain ability (which one: Invisibility, Dissimulation, ...?).

By the way, Necromancer Heroes and Leaders are not affected by Moral, if I'm not wrong (AI Archons units have a small buff, and there's an upgrade for Ghoul units but I'm not sure if it applies to Ghoul Heroes).
I'm not saying that your mod should correct this, just that it gives Ghoul Heroes some added edge as regarded to other classes' heroes (wandering alone and stacking at no moral loss). Perhaps, this is even welcome if you play with some mods that nerf Necromancer (plus, it adds some distinct flavor).

1. I feared this might be the case...
Indeed that behavior is not really balanced with AI only games with multiple heroes. Sadly I don't think I have the expertise to fix this or it might not be fixable at all.
Perhaps changing the penalty lower might be a good compromise if I can't find a way to fix it...

2. I believe that is just an oversight/"cool thing" that didn't matter to the devs and they left it in. I'll have to check if I could work around it to balance the morale modifiers somehow.

3. I think they were excluded for some reason or other. Probably compatibility with my other mods, Have to check it, perhaps I'll just include Giants and some other unit types that make sense to that and make a compilation mod that will avoid conflicts hmm...

4. Why not, if you can put the translation up somewhere I'll grab it and include it once I have time to do a patch.

Thank you, I'll take a look at the mod in November and see what I can do.

Hello, I've started playing with your mod to help me quitting bad habits ^^. I force-loaded an already started game, perhaps that could explain some weird behaviour? Here is my feedback.

1- The AI still uses multi-heroes stacks (on Lord)! As I play only against the AI, that could prove unfair and make me deacivate the mod, sadly.

2- Due to a game's bug (?), when a AI leader resigns and joins you, he's flagged as both a hero and a leader. You figure what happens with your modifiers... He becomes his own bodyguard!

3- What about adding other creatures to the Powerful Allies bonus, like angels, or Horned god?

4- If you are interested, I upgraded the French translation.
