Gaze & Touch

Description
The aim of this mod is re-work the Doom Gaze and a few of the touching attacks. Units like the Cockatrice, the Watcher and - if you like the Beastmen Dwelling add-on - the Basilisk are all awesome close combat units that tend to just stay back and do their silly gaze. The animation is ridiculous and so the units lose a lot of their fearsomeness.

What I want to do is to make the Doom Gaze focus less on doing damage, raise it's chance to petrify, set it on a cooldown and make petrification less similar to stun. If a unit is petrified, my opinion is that it should be granted Physical and Fire Protection, just like a frozen unit is granted Cold and Fire Protection.

The next thing is with regards to the Immolating Touch, Freezing Touch and Stunning Touch attacks. I believe it would add to the feel of them if they also inflicted a bit of damage.

- Lowered Doom Gaze damage to 10 Spirit Damage and raised its Petrified resistance check from 9 to 14
- Added 40% Physical and Fire Protection to the Petrified Status
- Set Doom Gaze cooldown to 2
- Added 10 baseline damage from their respective elements for Immolating Touch (Fire), Freezing Touch (Frost), Stunning Touch (Shock) and Petrifying Touch (Spirit)
- Added 5 baseline damage to Entangling Touch (trialling)

What I'm currently having trouble with is to have both the checks and the damage displayed for the Touch Attacks. I would need to modify the strings, somehow, but this is proving a challenge, unfortunately! Purely cosmetics, but would still like it fixed somehow.

I'm glad my suggestion helped you and thanks for the buff on Entangling Touch, and I agree that the slowed seems to be a little overpowed but have you decided which debuff to put on if the target resists? there are 2 that I think are more balanced, which are the Crippled and the Cobwebbed (which is literally Immobilized.) you decide

Thanks for the continued thoughts. I've been looking at the alternatives and I think Slow is too strong an effect for a fail. It would mean the target can't retaliate for the rest of that turn even if it succeeds in resisting the web. Crippled is just -12 AP, which could be better or worse than the normal loss of 50% AP, so it doesn't make that much of a difference. To conclude, I decided to give entangling touch the little extra damage that you suggested, though I made it only 5 physical for now as a test. I also implemented the fix with petrifying scream, so it should now give the proper status.

On second thought of my suggestion, I think it's better that Webbing Touch and Greater Webbing Touch apply slowed instead of the normal AP loss if the target resists based on the duration of the webbed effect, while Throw Net and Hurl Net apply crippled for 2 turns if the target resist but still maintains normal AP loss, while Entangling Touch you can decide what to modify on it, just don't leave it aside, after all it deserves to gain modification equal to Immolating Touch, Freezing Touch, Stunning Touch and Petrifying Touch that received

Oooh, interesting! Thanks for the feedback. Would the Slow be instead of the normal loss of action points then? Or maybe Webbing Touch could have the normal loss of AP, but Greater Webbing Touch would cause slow? Not sure what I think about the damage on Entangling Touch as it doesn't feel like a forceful ability the way I perceive it. I wonder if the Arch Druid Entangling Roots (if that's what it's called..?) spell has a status effect that could be used...

Since I'm reporting a problem with the mod I'll take the opportunity to give some feedback, how about making Webbing Touch, Greater Webbing Touch, Throw Net and Hurl Net cause slowed for 2 turns if the victim resists the ability, and makes Entangling Touch have 10 physical damage at baseline, what do you think of my idea?

I found a problem in Petrified Status caused by the petrifying scream, she is not applying 40% Physical and Fire Protection, can you fix it?

Great feedback, Alpha Titan! Thank you! Loving the idea of the debuff. Would you suggest that this happen if the touch attack fails, then?

Regarding the resistance check on Doom Gaze, part of it is that I like units like the Watcher and Cockatrice to not be so much used as ranged attackers, as they are formidable in close combat, so I added a cooldown on Doom Gaze. To just add the cooldown without the benefit of heightened petrification chance felt like underpowering the ability a bit. But maybe a slight nerf is in order. Petrifying touch inherently has a higher resistance check than the other touch attacks - 13 - so perhaps Doom Gaze should have the same?

I love the idea of petrification changing! I absolutly agree with the damage protection, I thought the same thing while playing and was suprised they weren't in there. That said, I feel like 14 is too high, maybe 11-13... very few powers have base 14 resist. As to the status effects doing damage on touch, I'd reccomend letting the touch add their corresponding debuff of their element instead, the ones that give a 20% weakness to their element. That way the target could be more suseptible to that damage type, or multiple sources of the same debuff could have a better chance of working. 10 elemental damage can be stronger than most units base attack iin many cases. Overall great mod concept and I hope to see where it goes from here.

Hello, what is a "re-work"? Purely cosmetic, or change in balance?
