AAA: Aging, Advancing, Acclimatising - Mod Series

Description
New Roman generals who change appearance based on age, rank and season. This mod is a part of the AAA Generals mod series.

INTRO
Aren't you tired of how the vanilla general characters look in Total War: ROME II? Is your immersion broken when you see a character who is 80 years old yet still looks like he's 30? Or how about when they're trudging through the snow without any kind of winter clothing - mustn't they be freezing like that? Aren't you just bored of how campaign characters always look the same throughout all your campaigns and have always wanted to give them some better looking gear to fit their increasing rank and status?

Then look no further! This mod series - like none other before it for Total War: ROME II - will solve all of the above for you.

ABOUT - AAA: Generals - Romans
This is the first in a series of mod releases focusing on the campaign characters, aiming to provide players with characters who dynamically replace their appearances with alternating variants based on three attributes for all campaigns.

These three attributes are:
  1. Age - As a character's age value increases over the years, their facial appearance will gradually look older. This will provide a visual clue to the player that a character will soon be reaching a natural death. For characters belonging to other factions, you previously had no way of knowing roughly how old they were - but with this mod, now you do!
  2. Advancement - As a character ranks up through battles, their gear will become more extravagant as befits their status and accumulated gravitas. They will even start wearing their armour openly in the senate, like a dictator would, when not leading an army after they have attained a high enough rank.
  3. Acclimatisation - When a season changes to winter, they will swap their appearance to a version which will wear winter clothing. This will provide a bit more immersion and variation to their appearances to fit the surrounding environments.

The number of variations for these Roman general appearances reaches into the thousands - around 10,000 appearance files, compared to the vanilla game's 31.

The campaigns that will feature them for this mod will be:
  1. Prologue - Rome (pro_rome) uses the Polybian general art set.
  2. Hannibal at the Gates - Rome (pun_rome) uses the Polybian general art set.
  3. Caesar in Gaul - Rome (gaul_rome) uses the Marian / Imperial general art set.
  4. Imperator Augustus - All four Roman factions (emp_octavian, emp_antony, emp_lepidus, emp_pompey) will use the Marian / Imperial general art set.
  5. Grand Campaign - Rome (rom_rome) uses a mixture of Polybian (Ranks 1 to 5)+ Marian / Imperial (Ranks 6 to 10) general art sets. Their appearances will now fit with the Marian + Imperial Reforms technologies as they rank up, no longer solely looking mid-Republican.
  6. Divide et Impera - Macedonian Wars - Rome (?) uses the Polybian general art set.

COMPATIBILITY
This mod was designed for compatibility in mind and is therefore compatible with all overhaul mods (e.g. Divide et Impera). However, there are a lot of overhaul mods out there and I may not have tested them all. If you find anything that's wrong, let me know and I will try to fix it. And yes, it is save compatible - you can enable / disable it whenever you want

THANK YOU
Special thanks to:
  • Celticus - For helping out with re-texturing vanilla assets to give much better quality; important characters shouldn't look low-res.
  • Patrons - For supporting my efforts on creating entirely new, custom 3D assets from scratch - without all your encouragement and generosity, those would not have been possible.

And finally, thank you for reading and (hopefully) rating + subscribing! I put a lot of my free time into this, and am glad it's finally done for all of you to enjoy.

Yep, it only changes general appearances in a non-destructive way.

Hey there, the issues you're describing sound exactly like the dreaded 35 mod limit. Once you enable more than 35 mods - no matter what aspect of the game they affect - random models and textures fail to load.

Just loaded this mod together with DEI. No other retexture/character appearance mods loaded. I love the new faces and gear, especially the female models are a vast improvement compared to vanilla ... but theres a major bug happening for me that makes me unload it again.

It for some reason deletes several characters models. None of my Governors and Veteran Champions have a body/face model anymore and also in battles I see alot of empty armour running around both in my armies (especially unit leaders and standard bearers) and the enemies armies. Both officer models aswell as normal soldiers missing faces or their whole body with only their armour and helmet running around. Its not every soldier but its enough to be noticeable like 10% or so. Also noticed that some Officer and especial naval/marine soldiers have broken shield textures. Either full on white texture or a large white square the size of the late imperial roman shields on the Polybian and Marian shields.

That's what I plan to do for the Easterns very soon, I already have the Arabs done and very soon the Nabataeans. Once I get the Parthians/Persians done, I can release it (wouldn't make sense not to have them at least to fill out the generic Eastern general variations for the likes of Armenia etc).

If it will take some time to finish the rest of the Barbarian/Eastern cultures, could we get a partial or beta release of either mod with just a few cultures for now that are already finished or almost finished?
