SirGibs Map Icons+Categories

In 1 collection by Sirgibsalot
The Sirgibsalot Collection - Garry's Mod
42 items
Description
This adds over 1500 map icons for Garry's Mod. This includes custom maps from Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, Day of Defeat: Source, and Team Fortress 2 along with maps from Half-Life 2 mods such as Black Mesa, Minerva, and NeoTokyo.

This also adds a number of new categories into the map list for better organization, as well as expanding a few of the existing categories to include more map types.

New categories include:

Action Half-Life 2/Action: Source
Black Mesa
Double Action
Empires
Eternal Silence
Fortress Forever
Goldeneye: Source
Half-Life 2 Leak Maps
Half-Life 2: Survivor
No More Room in Hell
Minerva
NeoTokyo
Obsidian Conflict
Resistance and Liberation
Silent Hill: Alchemilla
Sin Episode: Emergence
Swelter
Synergy
The Hidden: Source
Thunder's Leaves
Underhell
Zombie Mod

I highly recommend you use this with other map icon addons that can be found in the Workshop. Just search for "icons" and filter by maps. I will not add map icons that other addons have covered.

I plan to continue to update this with more icons and categories.

SPECIAL NOTE: To all who ask how to mount Black Mesa or any other mod's content: You will need to manually copy the content from these mods into a folder of your choice in garrysmod/addons. I will not reply to any comments asking how to use mod content in Garry's Mod.

@Agent Makron: it could it be years before a mod is released or maps are ported between engines and this addon isn't a priority for me, so suggesting those now isn't great because I'll likely not remember by the time they release.

The rest are ones that I'll look into in time.

Halfquake Trilogy — (Answering the obvious question, yes, this game is made on the GoldenSource engine. BUT the developer has officially released a free DLC with Source files of maps from the game , so in theory they can be mounted in Gmod)

TF2 Classic — (not yet released on Steam, but this will change in the near future)
Open Fortress — (same situation as with TF2 Classic)
Pre-Fortress — (does not yet have a page on Steam, but I think, by analogy with the two mods above, this will probably change soon)
Entropy: Zero — (Despite the availability of an addon that adds icons and a category for maps from the second part, the first part does not have a corresponding addon in the Gmod workshop)
Portal Reloaded
Portal Revolution
Portal Stories Mel

@Sirgibsalot: Okay. Below, in this and subsequent comments, you will find a list of these games and mods. I have written explanatory notes next to some of them, where necessary, and left links to their pages on Steam, if they have them. If you will have the time and desire to do so, you will can add icons and categories for some of these games and mods at your discretion. Anyway, here is the list:

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines — (if you don't have the original game, you can download the map ports from the game in the workshop . I think that if the author has not changed the original names of the maps, then adding icons and category for them should also be relevant for the original maps mounted in Gmod)

@Agent Makron: You don't need to ask my permission to post requests or anything like that, I just don't guarantee I'll do them.

Hello. Sorry to bother you, but I would like to ask you a question. The thing is, there are some pretty good games and mods on the Source engine that are relatively well known in certain circles. Surprisingly, however, there are no add-ons in Gmod's workshop for adding icons and categories for their maps. So, as I understand it, you still support this add-on and periodically release updates for it. Would you mind if I wrote a list of these games and mods here so that you could add icons and categories for them in future updates to your add-on? That way, you could increase the number of available icons and categories in the add-on and make it even more useful. What do you think?

@MagicalFruitBasket: Insurgency (Retail) doesn't use a naming prefix so some maps are being caught in its filters due to sharing part of their name with an Insurgency map.

I'm not sure if there's a way to make the filter more aggressive so non-Insurgency maps aren't being caught up in it, I'll probably just remove the category in the next update since it's becoming more trouble than what its worth.

Disabling this addon for now because it decided to put this map https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3450250071 , which has a gm_ prefix into "Insurgency (retail)"
No Idea what is going on.

@Ori: Haven't gotten around to DoI maps yet.

The Insurgency maps don't have a naming prefix like de_ or cs_ so some of its map names run into already existing category filters, includes default Gmod ones. Don't think there's anything I can do about this.
Ori 7 Sep, 2024 @ 6:27am
Hmm, missing Day Of Infamy and it seems a few maps in Insurgency (2014) aren't in its correct category
